Error msg during recovery

I have my C-drive backed up to a file on my D-drive and to another on an external harddisk. Recently, I get MBR error 3 on bootup. I thought I might fix the problem by restoring one of Acronis backup files. While initiializing the recovery, I get this message "Failed to activate Acronis Bootable Agent." What does that mean? Can you advise on how to restore my MBR?
