"Error while opening archive file. The archive format is not supported by this operation"

Thread needs solution

I have True Image Home 2010 Build 7.154 and did a full backup to an external SATA drive last night. The backup process went fine and verified correctly. If I now try and mount the backup, it asks for my password then after 5 seconds it gives me the error message. All of my backups on this drive exhibit the same error message when I try and mount any of the the backups. I can go to Windows explorer and click on the .tib file and access any directory on the backup, but this is much slower than mounting the backup.

I can mount backups from another drive, just not the external SATA drive.

What Gives?
TIA

If your backups are file backups, then this message is normal. Are they?

I see the problem may be related to the backup type incorrectly being set to Data Backup whereas it should have been a Disk & Partition Backup.
I will try another backup just to confirm it.

My bad. :(

I have made several backups with 2010. To date I've only needed bits and pieces of data from them.
On sep 10 I made 2 backups.
I since had to delete and reinstall 2010.
I get the "archive format is not supported by this operation" error on both files.

If I cannot get this rectified I'll never buy another update and I'll inform my associates of this issue.

btw.
One of the backups can be accessed by windows explorer so it's not a corruption issue.

Stephen,

If you try to mount a file backup, it will not work. You can only mount a disk and partition backup.

I have the same problem with my 2010 version - backing up to external hard drive - CANNOT restore from the backup made just after midnight this a.m. - same error "Error while opening archive file. The archive format is not supported by this operation" This is rediculous!

And my wife is having similar problems with her 2012 (Latest, just upgraded) - this might just do it with our "LONG TERM" usage of Acronis products.....................

Hope someone might suggest where we are going wrong?

Clarence,

What type of backup is this?
What operation do you go through to try to restore?
