Errors on backup process after disk defrag process run

Thread needs solution

My backups were running great, until after I ran a disk cleanup and defrag process on my computer. Now the backup either fails or completes with errors. I get the error message below:
13 Acronis True Image Home 7/22/2012 9:01:45 PM Failed to read data from the disk.
14 Acronis True Image Home 7/22/2012 9:01:45 PM Failed to read the snapshot.

Is this something I can correct somehow?

From an elevated command prompt, run chdsk X: /r where X is each partition on the disk your are backing up. I might take a couple of passes. You can also use your disk manufacturer's diagnostics tool, if you have one.

It looks like the defrag process may have moved some data to a marginal area on your disk. You may want to check your disks for errors using the Windows Disk Check tool, or using a utility supplied from the manufacturer of your hard disk drive. You may want to try doing a backup from your Recovery disk/USB stick and see what kind of results you get during the backup when not booted into Windows. If the backup works okay from the Recovery disk/USB stick, create a new backup task (using a new filename) while in Windows, and run the new task and check your results.
