F11 recovery prompt not working

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

i am not sure if this is the correct forum, we use Acronis True Image 2009 OEM. Which as far as the OEN portal says its the current version. I am new to the Acronis Forums.

Anyway, we have an issue with a particular model of laptop (Dell Vostro 3500 using i3).

We can run, install and backup the laptop with no problems but once its completed we cannot see the F11 prompt on boot.

On investigating the issue we found that the Acronis secure zone is created and does exist, we have also managed to successfully recover the laptop using a created recovery media (CDR).

Does anyone have any pointers on how we could resolve this issue?

Regards

Melvin

Hello Melvin,

Let me shed some light on the issue.

As far as I know all Dell laptops come with a special recovery partition and its own modified MBR (Master Boot Record). When you activate Acronis Startup Recovery Manager, it also tries to write its own values to the MBR.

So in this particular case it appears that there is some Acronis and Dell entries in MBR and the only way to fix it is to delete that Dell partition.

However, as a workaround you can always use a bootable CD.
