Fail to do Windows Update after cloning...HELP!!

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I have a Vista 32 bit on a Toshiba M700. I use Acronis Trued Image Home 2011. I believe I have the most updated TI Home 2011 because I just updated it before cloning. I did automatic cloning.

I just did a cloning from my old WD 300G to my WD 750G last night. Every program seems runing ok, except there are warings about "Windows Mails", "Windows Live Communications Platform has stopped working", and "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer".
I think the Windows Update problem is the most serious, so I tried to solve it first. But, I googled and tried many advice but still failed after almost spending 7 hours on it. I then think it may be the problem of cloning. Could someone please give me some advice? What other solutions are appropriate for me?

p.s. I don't have the Vista CDs. It came with the laptop in some hidden disk which I have not idea to get it now because it's been more than 4 years.

p.s. This is the second time I clone (upgrade) hard drive. The first time was ok when I bought the laptop. Does the number of times cloning matter?

This laptop is my life, I have to make it work or I am finished!!!

Many thanks.

Alex
