"Failed to write to sector" on USB drive
Hello
I have just got a new laptop (lenovo X201) and I wanted to make an image of it in virgin state before I start to transfer my programs and data.
I am using the Acronis TrueImage 2009 boot disk to create this backup onto an external USB HDD, but as soon as I specify the location where to write the image file, I get an error message:
"Failed to write to the sector 216,068,281 of the hard disk 1"
Ignoring/retrying just keeps on producing this error; canceling produces the following error:
"File H:\Newlaptop.tib cannot be created because the logical drive is read-only. Please choose another drive"
I have retried this with three different external USB HDDs, two Western Digital ones (a 1TB and a 2TB) and a Lacie one. I have a similar error with all three drives.
All of the drives behave normally from within Windows 7 when connected to the new laptop - there seem to be no problems either reading from or writing to these USB drives.
I am currently using TrueImage (Windows version) on my old laptop (running Windows XP Professional) to take backups on a weekly basis, using all three USB drives on a rotation basis, and I have never had this kind of problem.
I have just tried creating a backup from my old laptop (Lenovo T60) using the boot disk rather than the Windows version of TrueImage, and that works fine as well, with all three drives.
Could this problem be related to the USB drivers used by the Acronis boot disk? Obviously the new laptop may have newer USB ports, and the drivers included on the Acronis TrueImage 2009 boot disk may not be recent enough. If this is indeed the case, how can I make a new TrueImage boot disk with the right USB drivers?
Thanks in anticipation!
K

Thanks, Pat.
When I register this product, the only downloads I seem to be able to access from 'My Account' are full versions rather than ISOs. The latest build for ATI Home 2009 is build 9809 (20 November 2009). Am I looking in the wrong place?
TIA
K

The English version offers as shown below.

If you have a non-English version, then contact one of the forum moderators and see if there is an alternate iso for your version.

Thanks Grover. Unfortunately the 'Bootable Media' tab is not available when I look at the entry for ATI 2009 - see attached picture.
I'm mystified...

Your version is different than mine. As I wrote in post #3, send a private message to the link I supplied and ask if such an alternate iso exists for your version.

Thanks, Grover, will do. Not sure how come I don't have an English version - I live in England.
