Fails on XP. Fails on Win7. Won't uninstall from either. Awful.

Thread needs solution

On XP box...

Uninstalled ATI v11.
Tried to install ATI v2012 upgrade. It asks me for serial number of my old package to confirm this is a genuine upgrade. But it fails to recognise the serial number and so won't let me proceed.
Reinstall ATI v11.
Now it lets me install the upgrade to 2012. But, h*ll, I wish it hadn't.

Now the problems really start.

When trying to back up disk/partition, True Image 2012 shows an empty drop-down where the list of partitions to be backed up should be. So that don't work.
When trying to back up files, the backup crashes with error "Failed to create volume snapshot", which error has also been reported for earlier versions and is supposedly fixed long ago.

Not wanting to p*ss about fixing this mess, I uninstall ATI 2012.
The uninstall fails. Says "contact customer support". Very amusing.
Mess about for a couple of hours trying reboot/uninstall/search-the-web-for-straws-to-clutch-at...

Out of interest, I clean-installed Win7 on a new PC, then installed ATI 2012. With exactly the same results as on the old XP box.

I've fixed (I hope) the XP box by using the "ATIH_CleanUp_2012.exe" utility. And of course formatted the Win7 box.

ATI 2012: Buy it if you dare.

From my experience, and that of so many posters here, I'm not going to try to install ATI 2012 again. How many times will you have it break my system before you figure out what the problem is? So thanks but no thanks.

Oh, and the 2012 cleanup tool didn't fix the XP box. After it ran I installed v11, but I couldn't use the Image Explorer in v11 any more. For some reason the cleanup tool had associated the backup image files with a Creative Zen application. (That's so weird I'm not even trying to fix it).

I mean, what other nonsense did the cleanup tool inflict on my system? So just recovered the disk from a backup using a v11 boot CD.

ATI v11 was bearable. I mean, a bit flakey and only 50% of images aren't corrupted. But at least it kinda-worked and if you backed up often enough you could be reasonably sure of finding an image which was use-able. But v2012 is just a mess. So for Win7 I'll just make do with the limited MS backup offering. No more Acronis products for me.
