failure to create volume snapshot - XP Pro SP3
Software is Acronis True Image Home 2010
"Failure to create volume snapshot"
Getting the above message when trying to create a backup with no explanation of the reason. No message about lack of disk space or anything else. Naturally, when this happens the backup stops running.
Operating system is XP Pro SP3, hard drive is NTFS files system in 3 partitions using Partition Magic (version 8 I believe but it's been years). I am trying to creat a backup of all 3 partitions.
Previously I've tried cloning this drive to a larger newly installed drive and that also won't run and the cloning opertation doesn't report any reason as to why.
Need some clues as to what I may be doing wrong and what to do to resolve this issue. BTW, this is an engineering workstation and has no internet access due to security protocol, so I can't log it on to the net and let one of the Acronis techs poke around.
Finally, a hint to any Acronis Customer Service personel who happens upon this. Back in the Dark Ages there was a category of Engineering Professional called a "Technical Writer". I would suggest that you look up the definition and explore the concept. While I may have started out in design in the Stone Age in many ways what we considered common practice at that time was vastly superior to expecting a customer to understand how to operate thier purchase by osmosis. BTW, you'll probably also have to look up the definition of osmosis, education today is also VASTLY inferior to what it was back in the Stone Age.

In addition to checking the disk for errors, you could also attempt the backup when booted from the TrueImage Rescue/Recover CD.
