Fatal Error on StartUp

Thread needs solution

I need to uninstall an old version of TrueImage, a version for which I no longer have any information, but probably dates from c2004. It never worked and was partly uninstalled with A/Remove Programs. I've used Illya's instructions on removal. Now at every restart I get a black screen with a Fatal Error message. Pressing Enter forces boot up, but I don't want to live with this. Running schedmgr (in its own folder) fails because I'm evidently not using the right command language.

I believe the fatal error is caused by the fact that I completely deleted the TrueImage partition as instructed. I'm cleaning up this windows XP installation for transfer via Parallels into an Apple. I need to get all the old and/or unneeded programs off the drive before the transfer.

Hello Toby,

Let me assist you.

Most likely, some Acronis entries are still resides in the MBR (Master Boot Record) and this caused the issue. To fix it you need to restore Windows Boot Loader Manually.

Boot the computer from the installation CD, start Recovery Console and run fixmbr and fixboot commands.

Further information is available at:

(!) If the system partition was not restored to its original position, then the boot.ini file needs to be updated.

This can be done with the Recovery Console command bootcfg /rebuild
