File Backup bug? - .tib would take days, .zip only minutes

Thread needs solution

I just installed ATI 2012 (working in trial mode) - great program so far but I ran into one problem. I did a disk backup C:\ to F:\Acronis\Disk backups\ which is an external USB drive. It used 215 GB and only took about 4 hours. Then I started a File backup with just the documents folder from the same drive C:\ to F:\Acronis\File backups\ and after a really long time of calculating, it reported the backup would take about 2 days 11 hours. I left the job running and ¼ hour later the time changed to 3 days 4 hrs. The docs folder is only about 17 GB of the 215 GB going from and to the same place so it should take proportionately less time. I didn't change any of the backup options except for changing the operation priority from Low to Normal.

I know it's not a hardware problem because besides doing the disk backup in normal time, I've also used Microsoft SyncToy 2.1 which also takes very little time to complete. Also, as a test I changed the backup type from Acronis to zip file keeping all options and locations the same and that only took about 20 minutes to complete.

Don't believe the time estimates. They are infamously out of whack in ATI. Let the backup run and time it.

If the backup takes substantially more than about one minute per GB, then cancel it. I believe there is a minor issue doing file backups with ati2012 such that makes it take much longer doing file backups than doing partition/disk backups. Generally, this is more of any annoyance at worst.

Hoever, if it takes substantially longer than about 1 minute per GB, then there is likely an issue that that needs to be addressed with Tech Support.
