The file name, location, or format is invalid

Using Acronis True Image Home 2012
Trying to back up a computer, a task that I have done dozens of times. I am now getting the following error on every computer (different brand, different model, etc.) I try:
"The file name, location, or format is invalid."
It's like Acronis put a timer in their product to start failing after a certain date.
Any ideas how to get around this, other than purchase the latest version from Acronis.
