Frustrating issues with Recovery in True Image 2011

Thread needs solution

I am currently running True Image trial on both my laptop and desktop, and so far, have been relatively happy with it. However, on my desktop, when I try to boot to the recovery manager, and select Acronis in the menu, it starts to load then either freezes or reboots the machine.

This happens with a bootable USB drive or the integrated F11 boot option. Everything else seems to work fine, and I am only having this issue on my desktop. It does work sometimes but is mostly unreliable. If I can eradicate this issue, I would proceed to purchase the licenses. However, if I cannot boot to my backup images effectively, then there is no point.

Can anyone help me troubleshoot this issue?

Paul,
Have you considered using the TI Rescue CD. This CD is an important part of the Recovery procedures. Should you want to need to restore your system to an old or new drive, it is the Rescue CD which is the recommended tool. Different people have different results with the optional F11 feature--mostly due to the hardware mix.

The CD is capable of both backups and restores.

Paul,

It looks like you tried with your USB bootable disk and you had the same issues as with the F11 option. This points towards a driver issue, as both environment run on Linux.

You should contact Acronis support during your trial and they will probably provide you with an ISO image you can try.

Thanks for the heads up. Have not tried the rescue cd yet but will give that a go. I really like the recovery boot option and the bootable USB. Will be disappointe if I can only use the cd. However, I will get in touch with them to see I they have alt. Iso's available.

Paul,

As convenient as the recovery boot option might look like, remember that it will not be available if your disk fails utterly. You'd better make sure you can restore from the CD.
