General Questions Aconis 10

Thread needs solution

These are just general mystery questions (to me) about Acronis True Home 10 (yes I know it's old)
(There is more than one question)

1) I recently got a new computer. I tried to restore my old computer's "My Document" to the new computer expecting to overwrite the new folder Well it worked EXCEPT it didn't restore all of the folders. Let's say I had folders A-Z on the old computer. I might have only restored A-L for some reason.

2) I show total disk space as 298 GB with 152 used by one method. I tried 3 other software and got all different amounts of space used. No hidden partitions, and the computer is set to show hidden files. XP properties shows approx 152 used but the individual folders do not total up to that.

3) I have My Documents under "Steve" but since to restore I also have Steve's Documents. If I delete one folder it deletes it from both locations. What gives?

Thanks,

See3ducks, it is very possible that restoring the My Documents folder with certain security settings create a different junction folder in Windows and Windows reflects by renaming it "Steve's Documents" because they are coming from another computer.

Can you double click on the TIB file and explore it (I don't know if this feature exists in ATI v10)? If yes, you could copy your sub-folders directly from the archive into My Documents.

Alternatively, you could restore the sub folders one at a time.

Microsoft thought it would be a good idea to systematically make fake folders -- shadow folders and libraries of diff types of documents to make computing easier and perhaps more like apple. This is why you can appear to find documents in more than one place in W7 even when onely one actual copy exists on the machine. As Pat suggests, you should be able to get w7 to behave correctly by copying individual directories or groups of files.
