Had troubles, with recovery. Now wondering about upgrades

Thread needs solution

A service was able to recover my backup using " a current release" that I was was unable to recover with my release TI 2011, 8,022 . They suggested I get a later release. I wonder if the problem was me, the operator, or the software? If software , Is my version "upgradable" or should I go for a brand new copy? What are the best practices for keeping TI current?

Unless I am mis-informed, your version number is version 11. This should be listed in the about help section but you may have to hold down on the ALT key to see the version ID. More recent releases has been 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Yes, you would qualify for an upgrade which would require the input of your version 11 serial number before the installation would complete. This older serial requirement would also apply to any clean re-installation in the future of the upgraded version. Both the upgrade and the full version are the same except for the prior serial number requirements for the upgraded version.

As to cause of the non-restore with your CD, it would be impossible to guess. As it was able to be restored, you may have only needed a new recovery CD but who knows at this point.

The newer versions do have an automatic update notification which enables the user to keep updated. Remember, this is backup software so any update is a major event within the program. Bugs are fixed and often times more bugs introduced. Anytime you upgrade, it is always wise to create a new backup before upgrading so you have a safety valve should something go wrong. Automatic updates can be more trouble than their worth. It is better to prepare for an update rather than do the update without a recent backup.

If you do switch to a newer version, register your new serial number and then first download only the ISO bootable media file. Burn the iso onto a new CD as a bootable media CD and then use the new CD to make a full and complete backup of your system to include all partitions. I assume (based on your version 11), you are probably using XP or XP Pro.

After you do the new backup, then and only then do the install of the new version.
