HDD to SSD clone disk - please help

Thread needs solution

I am running win 8.1 pro 64 bit on a Lenovo with a 500Gb HGST hdd. I also have True Image 2013 running on this machine. I am using only 213GB of the HDD. I want to replace HDD with a Crucial 480Gb SSD. Can I simply
1. boot my PC in current configuration,
2, attach new SSD using a USB enclosure
3. Run True Image 2013
4. Run clone disk on true image and copy all partitions from HDD to SSD
5. Shut down PC and swap out HDD for SSD?

I have done this to replace HDD's in the past but I am unsure whether an SSD needs anything else?

Dai,
I've had mixed results restoring to SSD (win7 & Win8). However, they have always been successful. Please ensure you are using the latest build of 2013 available, as it has necessary updates for windows 8 compatibility.

Start by making a screen capture of your disk layout in Disk Management. This can come in handy during the restore process.

Create a full disk image back up using Acronis Recovery Media (boot CD)

Restore one partition at a time, in the order (layout) that they appear in your screen capture. Keep in mind drives letters will not be the same in the recovery environment. This is not something you need to be concerned about. You can continue to the next partition after each operation completes. During the restore process, you can also expand the sizes of existing partitions to suit your needs.

The most important thing to consider. Do not use an icybox, USB enclosure / adapter, etc for the destination disk. Create the image, put the destination drive into the laptop or same physical location where the disk you made the image from was.

On a few occasions I've had to let Windows 8 perform a start up repair on a newly restored SSD. Once again this was not a big deal.
