Help - How to delete these entries?

Thread needs solution

Hi
Can anyone help me with another problem with this crazy Acronis True Image 2014, please?
In the main Acronis window in the "Backup & Recovery" tab, my 4 backup options are listed.
Once I had finally managed to wade my way through this forum [Thanks Grover] to understand the different back up options, and how one should go about deleting old back up files, these backups worked fine for a while, backing up files to a portable hard drive.
However, below that list, the main Acronis "Backup & Recovery" window has suddenly also started showing a long list of other back-ups. They seem to include a list of some old back-up files [Back-up versions?] which I had moved to a different backup archive folder, as well as other back-up files in the day-to-day back-up folder.

Can anyone advise me:
1. What exactly is this list of back-ups, what causes it, does it have a name, and why are they listed?
2. How do I get rid of these from "Backup & Recovery" window, without deleting the underlying files?
3. How do I stop this from happening again, (it wasn't happening previously), so just my current working back-up options are listed.

An as an aside, can anyone recommend a better program than Acronis? This interface and total lack of meaningful FAQs and unhelpful Help file is just ridiculous and I have had enough!

Thanks in advance
Regards
Rob

First place to look inside the "Add Backup opiton" located top row center menu. Observe the color of the checkmark. If bright blue, the option is enabled which looks for backups each time you start the program.
If checkmark is dull or little to no blue, the option is disabled and what you got was a random adding of these files. If the option is enabled, you can toggle the setting to disable the scan.

GH41. Control Scan for backup settings.

To get rid of the unwanted listing, you can remove each by running this option on each of the ones listed.
You could delete them all but that deletion would also delete the working tasks and those would need to be re-created. It is just easier with less hassle to remove each task individually.

GH20. Remove Single Task from Task Menu Listing

Unfortuntely, this may happen again without any reason or explantion and you will need to repeat the removal of the unwanted via the remove from task option. This happens about one a month with me and I have about 50 unwnated I have to remove each time this occurs. Hopefully, you only have a few to remove. This sometimes happens following a restore or the attachment of and storage disk.

Many thanks Grover - You've saved the day again.

My "Auto Search At Start-up" settings under "Add Backup" icon was not ticked (see attached), and yet all these old back-ups have appeared. Weird how this new Acronis works!
I have Acronis True Image 2014, which has a slightly different screen to your example of the double gear-wheel menu (see attached 'More Features Icon options.jpg'), but I get the picture. Thanks.

I have removed the 20 or so unwanted tasks from the main screen. But, in error, I also deleted a working task that I actually did need, because I could not easily distiguish between unwanted" and "working" tasks. Do you know how one can do so. (I tried sorting by date, but it still wasn't exactly clear.)

You say you need to to delete about 50 unwanted tasks every month. That just adds to my frustration about this Acronis 2014. You don't know of a better programme do you?

Thanks again
Rob

Usually, my good tasks have the "Back up now" option visible so these are the ones I do not delete.

If you need to try to recover that working task, there are a couple options.
Can you look at your log file about one of the backups created via the working task.
Using Notepad, open it and see if you can come up with the script ID.
or perhaps
You can try mounting one of your backup for the deleted task and look iinside the Scripts file for the task ID.
Or, using Notepad, look inside the Archives.xml file for the id. Don't save or make any changes to either file.

Once you have the scripits id, you can look inside your backup file and look into the scripts folder and maybe copy the script from the backup file into the in use Scripts folder.

It may be easier just to create a new task.
