HELP, I have an Acronis True Image 2014 backup of my hard drive, my hard drive failed and I need to order a new one...
Hi there, I have an HP Pavilion G7-1310us which the hard drive failed today. It's a Toshiba 750 gig 5400rpm drive. I took it in and they checked it out and it has two bad sectors. So my question is, can I order a larger hard drive by a different manufacturer and my true image backup still install to it? I want to order a Western Digital 1 TB drive from New Egg, but I need to make sure that there aren't drivers for the HD that will make my image restore not work. It's the same laptop, so I am not changing computers, just hard drives and would be getting a larger HD. Let me know so I can order one tonight. thank you. :) PS: Also anyone know about Windows 7 and being able to get into my user files, we tried to from the tech place and it wouldn't let us access my files. He said it may work once I restore my new hard drive and it's my computer. I will put my old hard drive into an external enclosure and hook it to my computer via USB. Let me know what you all think thanks :)

1. Using a WD 1 TB disk as a replacement for the 750 Toshiba should be a non-issue as to brand or size or driver. However, what could be issue is to whether the backup you made was a full and complete backup which contained all the hidden partitioons which need to be restored if Window is going to boot from.
2. The new 1TB WD needs to be installed into the computer on same connector as was the 750.
3. The disk containing the tib backup (must be a good working disk) can be attached via an external enclosure.
The restore can be made from tib backup file onto the 1 TB WD via your TrueImage bootable Recovery CD which you made when you had TrueImage installed on the laptop. The restore is made when booted from the TI CD.
4. One illustration of how to do this would be to click on my signature item #3 using item 2 from inside that link. The item 2 is a guide to restoring a disk image backup.

Yes I always do a full partition backup. I just wasn't sure if the partitions have to be exact the same (or if it matters if I use a different manufacturer for the HD) or if they can be larger and the program will then allocate more to the free space. Yes my backup is on an external Seagate 2 TB and it's working perfect. Only problem is 2014 was a downloaded upgrade. I don't have a disk. Thank you.

The TI Recovery CD is essential to restoring your backup onto a new disk. Yes, if you perform a disk option restore, it should consume all free space.
If you need a create a TI Recovery CD, then click on my signature link #9.
Use illustrations 0, 1, 2, 3, and 7.
Download the ISO file as shown in picture 7.
Once downloaded,
Right click on downloaded ISO file and choose the option
Open With
Choose the Windows Disk Image Burner
Also check the verify option and
Proceed with the burning of the image to a blank CD.
Once you have created the TI Recovery CD as above, then you can reboot into the new TI Recovery CD
and perform the disk image restore via the CD as indicated in my first post.
