help needed with true image home 10
im trying to backup the whole of my c drive, i followed the wizard and set the backup to a external hard drive but after it finished, i can only find five folders on the backup hard drive, and no partition on that hard drive for the acronis backup
im running xp with a verbatin ex hard drive formated to fat 32, the c drive is formated to ntfs, thanks in advance for any help given.

What do you expect to see there and what really is on the external hard disk? After a successfule backup there should be a .tib file of significant size. ( in your case, (fat32) several .tib files of 4 gb size each except the last)

Try the backup again and this time check the disk block as to what is to be backed up.
Another option would be to boot from the TI REscue CD and perform the backup from the CD.
Be aware that since the destination is a FAT32 file system, the backup will be split into 4G segments. If you want the backup file to be only one large file, you will need to convert the FAT32 into NTFS before creating the backup.
For more help, click on my signature index below and look at backup item in 3-A.

thanks for your replies, what i expected to see was a secure partition on the ex hard drive with the acronis back up inside, i havent got that, all i can see is four folders (there is nothing about .tib) which are not inside it's own partition. when i used the prog for the first time, approx two years ago, to make a back up to a second "internal" hard drive, it partitioned the hard drive for the back up. simon.

Afaik, ASZ (secure partition) is not created on the external drives. What is located in that four folders? Is it offered for restore in resotre wizard?

Simon,
Do a file search for *.tib
and see if you can get a hit.
The secure zone feature is an option--not part of a regular install. If secure zone selected, user selected where and how big. It is possible to put on the external disk if you made such a specific choice. Normally, the default location would have been at the end of the system disk.
Most likely, the Secure zone is a FAT32 so if you have four files inside, they could be 4GB size files or about 13-16GB in total size and would be compressed. Such a backup size would imply a used space previously backed up was about 15-25GB in used space.
How about attaching the external disk and then open Windows Disk Management and look at how your disks and partitions are pictured. Take a screen capture of what you see and post in as an attachment if you want to convey what the screen shows.
If the storage location for your backups is a FAT32 file system, the largest file size permitted is a little over 4GB and so larger file would be split into increment of that size. If the storage file system is NTFS, then the backup might be only one large file per backup.

thanks again for your help, i did a search for .tib files and it found all four files, i also ran the restore feature and again it found all folders but because there was four i could only highlite one folder at a time to back up. tried to do screen shots but could not get them to load so gave up. would it be better if i reformated the drive and did a new back up, i was expecting it to put them in a secure partition, but as it does'nt then maybe it has backed up correctly. what do you think?

Simon,
So far, it is not clear to me what is at issue here. Maybe attaching a screen capture would help. Click on my signature index below and look at items 8-B & 8-C regarding attachment creation and postings.
What size are the files? Are they all at the same date and time? If you look in Windows Explorer, how much is your used space? Your backup size will be roughly 70% of your used space. While a backup is being created, there are options where you can select validation which will help to check the integrity of your backup.
, i also ran the restore feature and again it found all folders but because there was four i could only highlite one folder at a time to back up.
If you are doing a files and folders backup (rather than a partition backup), you should be able to control which folders are included and you can choose single or multiple in number. When you choose a partition backup and check the disk as what is to be backed up, checkmarking the disk includes everything. While you are looking at my index, also look at both items listed in item 3-A.

hi grover thanks for your patience, i hope that u can open both screen captures , all the files were created at the same time and are all the same size, what i'll probably do is delete the files and reformat the drive so the backup are all in the same folder., do the screen shots tell u anything?, good help index, i'll copy some of help files of. simon.

Simon,
easycapture2 has promise but I need to have a different view. Go back to where the #2 was taken. When you get that location, Up on the top menu is a view option. Click on the view option and select the detail view. This view will show me size and date and time, etc. Post another capture showing the detail view.

RE: Using old version 10 with a system running XP.
Disk 1 is the system (drive C) and has 1 partition 76GB with 19.2GB used space.
Disk 2 is for backups and 80GB
Disk 3 is for backups and is 320GB.
Attachment backup size of 14,2 gb would seem to imply that your backup included everything on disk 1.
So your status so far is that you are half done. The next step is for you to boot from the TI Rescue CD and validate the recent backup file when booted from the Recovey/Rescue CD.
If validation is reported as successful, then the following step is to restore some files from the backup onto a test folder on either your System disk (c) or onto one of your backup disks.
You must not stop now. You really need to perform the test restores. One of the biggest and most frequent mistakes a new Aconis user makes it to never test that a recovery of files is actually possible. A backup is made and it is assumed that you can recovery the backup should there be a need. Based on the number of postings, this is a faulty assumption. You need to make actual restores to proved a recovery is possible. Many use a test disk and test by making a duplicate dis.
Acronis provides provides these methods to access your backup files as a test or for real.
1. Recovery/restore method. (disk or partition or folder and files.) CD or Windows
2. Right click on backup file and choose the explorer method. (Windows only using Windows Explorer)
3. Right click on backup file and chose the mount option; (Windows only using Windows Explorer) or open the program and choose the Mount option.
I would encourage you to review the guides listed in item #3 of my signature index below and read some of the topics as well. There is a learning curve but you can master such a curve but it will require some of your time.
