Help setting up daily incremental backup on older XP machine
I've been using this PC for some time:
Intel Pentium 4 CPU, 3.20 Ghz, 1 GB RAM
Acronis True Image Home 2009 (build 9,796)
Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition
Version 2002, Service Pack 3
I have two 160 GB WD Caviar drives in this system:
Drive 1:
OS (C:)
PROFILE (D:)
WEBSITE (E:)
DIGITAL MEDIA (F:)
SWAP FILE (G:)
Drive 2:
The other drive is mainly for archival purposes and consists of
ARCHIVE (H:)
The other day I was hit with the "Data Recovery Malware" virus. It was scary but I went for my Acronis backup, which I'd thought was my insurance policy and come to find out like an idiot I was only backing up the system state. Pretty much worthless.
I managed to get the virus off the system, now it's clean and it's time to get the backup plan for this machine on track for the next emergency. So, I want to do this the way it should have been done in the first place. I want to do daily incremental backups. Not looking for an external backup because I have no spare external drive to back up to at the moment. Is there a guide on here somewhere that will walk me through setting this up so I have a solid (reliable without the nail-biting "will it work?" scenario come restore time) backup?
Not interested in upgrading equipment or buying new Acronis software. If it can't be done with what I have I'll go to a different backup product.
Thanks

Check out item 3-EE at the link Pat suggested. This could help.
You are not using the latest build for 2009 which is 9809. My suggestion would be to at least download the 9809 iso file and create a new bootable media which is up to date.
Then boot from the CD and perform a full disk backup where you checkmark the disk as to what is to be backed up. The 3-EE does not illustrate the creating of incrementals but you can should be able to figure that out from the guide and the user manual. One problem in providing more help to you is that none of have 2009 installed for current reference.
Once you have a full backup created when booted from the CD, then you can experiment with the creation of incremental backups from either the CD or from within Windows.
