How to avoid 'network lost' on clean install?

Thread needs solution

I'm considering moving from Win7 32 to Win7 64.

This will require a clean install. However, there is the chance that the procedure will go south and I'll need to revert back to my current 32 bit system which is imaged every night across the peer to peer network to my wife's XP machine.

In the past when faced with such a situation, the information required by Acronis to locate the file on my wife's computer using using the Acronis install disk was simply over my head and I had to rely upon the hidden manufacturer's image on my computer.

Is there a way to create a 'smart' boot disk for Acronis for this machine that will 'know' precisely where my nightly images are stored and where my intermediate archive is located on her machine?

There is no way to make the recovery CD/flash drive ("CD") smarter. The default CD should allow you to browse your network and access the image. If it doesn't you might have better chances with a BartPE-based or a WinPE-based CD, because they use Windows driver.

I have noticed that turning off the homegroup on Win7 computers and using regular Windows user accounts and passwords solves some issues with ATI networking. You have to try.
