How to create a bootable backup?

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have an old XP configuration which was working fine and which brought me entire satisfaction. But for any reason which I did not manage to solve, this old computer does not want to start anymore.
So I took out the harddrive and plugged it with SATA to USB adapter cable into my new machine, running Windows 7 64 bits.
On this machine, Acronis True Image Home 2012 is installed.

I would like to create a virtual machine from the harddisk I took out in order to load it in VMWare.

1) I created a Acronis True Image back-up from my XP-System.
2) I converted this back-up to a Windows Back-up *.vhd.
3) I created a new virtual machine in VMWare and chose as installer disk the *.vhd image.
--> It did not find the Operating system and show me 'Client MacAddress ........
PXE-E53 No boot filename received.

Which way should I do this?

Thank you in advance

Regards
