How do i create a shortcut on my desktop to run a backup?
Hi
I just purchased home 2011.
On one of my backups, i click on Operatins, then More, then Create Shortcut.
It creates a shortcut on my desktop but it does not work.
When i click on it, windows asks me what program i want to use to open it.
What am i doing wrong?
Thanks up front

"It sounds like you might not have selected the original task which created the full backup"
I have no idea what you mean by this.
What i have done is i have installed acronis home 2011 and created a full disk backup.
I have run it several times. It works when i click on the button that says "Back Up Now" with a blue arrow that points up.
Below that button is a menu titled "Operations"
when i click on that, there is a submenu called "More".
The first item on the sub menu is "Create a Shortcut".
When i click on that, it produces a shortcut on my desktop that does not work.
At no time is there an opertunity to "select the original task"
The "Operations menu" is a part of a specific defined backup.
If i have two backups defined, then each one will have its own "Operations Menu"

Any Takers? Anyone else actually got the shortcut to work?
Thanks

Jerry,
Yes, the shortcut feature does work --at least it does for me using XP Pro. If you are using Win7, your path may differ.
It is possible that you need to make a file association for "tis" to TrueImage inside your Windows file extensions.
If yours does not work, try adding the extensions.
"C:\Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageLauncher.exe" /script:731018B0-51B8-4898-9E5C-1D3AF4CC655B.tib.tis
Let me know your results.
The above is what my shortcut looks like. Note the script id. Your number would be the script assigned to the full backup task. You can look in your SCRIPTS folder and get the ID. Or you can look at the log file associated with the full backup and it will be listed. You can also use Notepad and look at the contents of the log or the contents of the script file.
"C:\Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageLauncher.exe" /script:731018B0-51B8-4898-9E5C-1D3AF4CC655B
One thing about the shortcut is that multiple clicks are not recorded or kept in queue. You will get one backup no matter how many clicks.

Thanks!
When I create a shortcut using the technique described above, I get a file on my desktop that contains no extension and contains zero bytes.
A normal shortcut has a .lnk or a .pif extension and contains data.
I am looking for someone who works at acronis who may know about this bug.
As stated, I have acronis home 2011 and am completely updated. am using windows 7 ultimate 32 bit.
The two backups that i have defined work flawlessly when i click on their respective buttons. It is the create shortcut option that is failing.
When i was using acronis home 11, i had to make my own shortcut as described by "GroverH".
I know how to do this and can do it here (it is not easy), but i am trying to find out why the feature on this product is not working.
So any one out there have the same issue? Does anyone who works at acronis have a sugestion or solution? Is this simply a bug with windows 7 Ultimate? is there some sort of setting in windows that i need to set? etc etc.
Thanks

Jerry,
The shortcuts created by TrueImage 2011 work flawlessly on my XP Pro system but do NOT have a *.tis extension either. However, TI could be programed to add the extension anyway. The shortcuts created by the Task work for me and something is preventing it from working for you.
If I were you, my next step would be to repair the TrueImage installation. Using the recent download file from your last TI update, restart the TI install file and you will be provided with a couple options and one is to do a repair. This will re-install TrueImage overtop of the existing install. You will not loose your tasks.
TrueImage is using a different program in the 2011 version to launch the shortcuts. The prior methods I wrote about does not apply to the 2011. Using the new launcher, it keeps track of what is happening whereas the old method just launches the file with no awareness of prior backups. You will get unpredictable results if you try to use the old way with 2011.
Let us know the results.

GroverH
Thanks for your response.
If you right click on your working shortcut, and look on the general tab, How many bytes does your shortcut say it has?
Mine says 0 bytes.
I am still looking for someone who has it working on windows 7.
Thanks

Jerry,
I've W7 and just tried making shortcuts of two tasks, one empty and one with data. Both have created a 4kB shortcut on the desktop.
Do the icons appear correctly for the shortcuts?
Does the shortcut on your desktop for TIH itself work? this uses TI Launcher to start TIH as does the task shortcuts.
What happens when you click on the 'Open File Location' button under the 'short cut' tab?
As a last resort I can only suggest performing a repair install of TIH, run the installer and it should give you the choice of 'Repair'.
What build are you using?

My XP shortcut has 1,919 bytes. If yours is zero bytes, this could also be a security or firewall issue which is lacking permission to write complete its write--but that's a guess on my part.

Jerry,
Have you installed TIH for all users or just a single user?
Is your PC a work PC that might have workgroup policies enabled?
Do you have the W7 UAC enabled or disabled?
What contect menu choices do you get if you right click on the shortcut?
What happens if you start TIH up using Run As Administrator and then make the short cuts?
Could you provide some screen snips?

Thanks!
I figured it out!
The default name for my backup was "Local disk (C:)"
The name of the backup ended up being "Local_disk_(C).tib"
The name of the bogus shortcut was "Backup Local disk (C"
I noticed that the name got cutoff where the colin was.
I clicked on "Edit Backup Settings" and changed the backup name to "FullC2F"
And now it worked.
The shortcut name is: "Back up 'FullC2F' now.lnk"
Thank you both
Jerry

Thank you for getting back to us with the solution. Sometimes it is the most simple of things which cause all the grief.
