How do I how to force TI 2015 to begin a new incremental backup set instead of appending another incremental?

Thread needs solution

How do I how to force TI 2015 to begin  a new incremental backup set instead of appending another incremental to an existing set?  I want to create a full backup to begin a new chain of incrementals, but no matter what I do, it keeps creating more incrementals to the existing backup.

In the past, I solved this simply by accesing Options and changing the number of incrementals to make before creating next full backup.  For example, if I already have a backup set with a full backup and six incremental's, for the next backup I'll change the options to say create a new full backup after four incremental's, which forced TI to make a new full backup to begin the next set of incremental's.  For some reason now that's not working.

Can anyone help with this?  I hope this makes sense.  Thanks.

Anthony, perhaps the simplest method of doing what you want is to create a completely new backup task, with a new, different name, and being saved to a different target folder on your backup drive.

Unfortunately, changing the backup settings for an existing task is not recommended as this can have unpredictable results, for example, it will cause the count of incrementals (or differentials) to be reset and start counting again from 0, hence if you change the number to make before a new full backup, then even though you may already have created 6, because you changed this to 4, it starts counting as if you had none and will create a further 4 incrementals before making a new full backup!

I suspect that some of this behaviour is a byproduct of using the Acronis Database in ATIH 2015 (& later) to keep track of the backup history.

You could also use the option to 'Clone settings' from the current task to make a new task with the same configuration, but again, please give the new task a different name and point it at a different target folder.  See the User Guide: Backup operations menu
