How do I keep (some) old backups?

Thread needs solution

The backup plans will delete the oldest backups (possibly keeping the *first*) when a quota is reached.

But I don't want to delete all backups before (say) three months ago. I want to keep *some* of the old ones, like one per week, then even older can keep just one per month, etc.

Also, suppose I move an old file (a full backup, or a full with its increments) to another media. How can I then use that lonely tib file without True Image having a fit because a zillion other files are not also present, and just use the version contained in the file I tell it?

Greetings John,
First, we don't know which version of Acronis you are using. In a way it doesn't matter since generally speaking what you want to do has never been supported to the extent I believe you are referring to. Automatic deletion of "some, but not all" back up images based on quota or retention rules.

I am referring to a single back up task. It would be possible for you to create more than one back up task and set individual rules or policies that would allow that task to conform to your requirements, but I fear all of them together might become a nightmare to manage over time. You'll have to explore the granularity of the policies in a task to see if it will conform to your requirements, but again the program can't differentiate between one back up or another and I want to keep this one, but delete that one, over time reliably.

The determining factors for retention & clean up are length time, size of back ups, or number of back ups before clean up or deletion. Moving images should always be done from within the program.

You may have other options. More questions, just ask.

Could you look at number 85490: Recover from missing (very old) backup versions

Thanks.
