How do I Recover backups not listed in My Backups.

I have many backups on external storage, and also old backups on my HD that are not listed one the home page in my backups.
Where is there a button to hit 'Recover', browse to that backup and recover a file or the whole partition? I see no intuitive way to do that. The whole point of recovery is to be able to do that easily! Of course I also want to browse those backups to find individual files. This version makes things too hard.
