how do I recover my partition

I had to format my C: partition, so did a back up first.
When I go into recover my back up, my back up is on an external drive, it contains 30+. tib files. How do I put this back on my C: Never done it before. I tried by clicking on tib1 but it came up with an error.
Also when it asked which back up it also had MBR as well. Now I am really confused.
