How do I restore a whole system backup from external drive?

Thread needs solution

Hi all, I have used other versions of True Image Home without problems restoring my system with a full backup.Have been trying to restore with this new version and finding it very confusing thought I did it right ended up having to format and reinstall windows 7.Some reason it made another version of windows on my harddrive and stopped my computer from booting up it.I dont want a second bootable copy on my drive just wanted to replace the one that was there. So my question is are there simple step by step instructions on how to restore a system using Home 2012.Sorry for being long winded. thanks all

Ideally, the simplest thing is to make a Disk Mode backup of your entire disk then do a disk mode Full disk restore of everything that is in the backup.

It sounds like you did your restore of the system partition to a second partition on the target drive.

Also note that when you resotre, the disk letters mean almost nothing. the boot environment won't necessarily assign drive letters the same way windows does, so you have to use drive size or drive ID or volume lables to accurately distinguish which partition/disk is which.

Grover's guides (see stickies) can be a big help if the User Guide seems too daunting.
