How to make BACKUP OPTIONS UNIVERSAL ?

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I have been using ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE versions for years, and one problem is that there seems to be no way to customize ALL of the backup options tabs - for all existing and newly created backup tasks. For example, there is no way of saving all the email NOTIFICATION SETTINGS with the same user parameters in every custom scheme. Even saving a CUSTOM setup, with all the option tabs redefined to new settings, and saved to a new Custom Name, doesn't seem to stick. Clicking on a backup task "SETTINGS", shows that the scheme has been set again to the default name "CUSTOM" - and not the one new one (like say ... MY OWN SCHEME).

Seems to me that if you re-open a task, and a saved scheme, and SAVE the upon exit from setup, then the next opening of Setting should show the new scheme name - not the ACRONIS "CUSTOM" name.

Even opening a different backup task, clicking on its "Settings", and choosing the newly saved Scheme Name, doesn't change anything except the tab named "Backup Scheme" - the other tabs are still what was setup for this task individually. It is a real hassle to change items like auto Validate, or the email notification info.

I would like to create a system wide, ACRONIS DEFAULT CUSTOM SCHEME - with all my tab information pre-sets, set to my common choice, and have that applied as the default CUSTOM to any new or old Backup Task. It seems that the default saving of Backup Schemes is not complete.

Thanks,

You can add your suggestion to the Acronis Wish List for future thought.

GENERAL:

The closest thing you can come right now to your desired settings would be to
Create a Master backup task with whatever settings you want the master task to have. This master must be saved as a Non-scheduled task. This master task will appear under "My Backups" as "MASTER." It really is not intended for backup use (but could be) but just get all your desired settings into one task.

GH64. 71342: 2015 How to save a non-scheduled task.

Clone the master task and create multiple clones of the master.

Rename/edit each clone to its individual differences before using. Here you would change the settings from your default to whatever you want for this specific single task.

-------------------------------------
SPECIFIC:

1. Create Master Task with all its settings information and save as non-scheduled task named "Master".

2. After "Master" saved and appearing under "My backups", click the "Master" task name so the name becomes highlighted.

3. Click the operations tab and click "Clone settings."
and a new task named "(1)Master" will be added to your listings of tasks as a cloned copy of your original Master task.

4. Now, for a cloned copy to be put into use as a new task, you will need to.

4A: Click/select a cloned task copy and then click the operations/Edit Settings so task settings can be modified on this particular task.

4B: Begin editing: Along the top margin, Click the pencil icon beside the task name and type a new name and press Enter.
The new task name will be applied as the name of the tib backup file. Warning! If you want a special name for your tib file, that special tib name will need to be assigned as the task name during this task renaming process.

4C: Any individual default setting needing changing (in this task) must now be changed/edited to the individual cloned task.
I personally recommend that a different sub-folder be used for each task so tib files from different tasks are not mixed.
NO TWO TASKS SHOULD HAVE THE SAME NAME. EACH TASK NAME SHOULD DIFFER.

Backup scheme suggestiona

Depending upon the type of backup scheme you wish to create, here is an example of each type. These can be set up for Disk image, or Partiton, or Files-folders backups. These example show how to set up automatic cleanup so the program will do its own deletion of older chains after it reaches your set goal of how many chains to retain.

Once a task is in use, editing an existing task is not recommended. Rarely does an edited task perform to user expectations. It is usually better to start with a new task using a new non-identical task name and point to a new storage sub-folder so each task has it own storage folder/sub-folder. Old task can be stopped or deleted from the task listings.

GH11. Create Custom Full Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup....Store/Keep 4 versions (chains). Use whatever number best fits the individual needs..

GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup. ...Keep Full plus 6 Inc per chain. Store/Keep 4 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.

GH13. Create Custom Differential Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup. ...Keep Full plus 2 Diff per chain. Store/Keep 2 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.
