How to name on new tib files

Thread needs solution

Hi,  I have been running ATI 2014 vesion.  I bought 2015 ATI last week and instnalled on my window 10.   So far it looks.  The page looks entirely different from the previous version which causes confusion.   I made a first and second tib backups (and verification) yesterday without any problem.

My problem is how to name new backup file as I want.  The 2015 version creates its own long name on the new created tibs.   Iwant to name  shorter and easy to identifiable names on all newly created tibs.  I could not figure out how.  Please advise me.

(sorry if duplicated; I had a problem with posting).

Easy to do in ATI2015.  After you select to create a new backup, a default name appears at the top of the main window.  All you have to do is click on it, delete the default name that Acronis named it, and type your NEW NAME.  From then on, all backups (incrementals etc), will be prefaced with that name.  Acronis is still going to append the file # and version info to the end of your name.

Good luck

Thank you.  Today, I updated to 2016 ATI.  Can I  rename files on 2016 ATI files as in 2015 files?

Jorge,

You have the same flexability or lack of flexability  with 2016 as compared to 2015.

http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2016/index.html#2…

The name assigned to the tib file will be whatever name is assigned as the task name before any tib file is created.

The user does not have to accept the default name and can assign a name of their choose.  This can be done using the RENAME function.

Once a tib file has been created. you must not change the existing name of the backup file (*.tib).

The task name can be changed using the "Rename" edit option.

The rename can occur before any tib files has been created and all future tib files while has the same new name.

The rename can occur after some some tib files have been created and all future tib files will have the new name but all tib files with the old name will and must remain with the old name.

This link shows how to create either scheduled or non-scheduled tasks so it is possible to modify the task name PRIOR to any scheduled or non-scheduled backup but the initial task save must be saved using the "down arrow and later option"--as illustrated by the several pictures examples at the next link.

This next link illustrates how to modify the task name outside the normal program options such as adding date/time macros or custom text.

Thank you GroverH.

I have been jusing 2014 version on 3 computers (OS is Windows 10).   I updated 2015 > 2016 Truimage on one desktop.  Now, I am downloading 6027 build now.   I will start over again after updating 6027.

I am really confused with 2015/2016.  The starata page seems to be the same between 2015 and 2016 version.  Just I could not figure out how to work on these new versions.  In order to run 2015/2016 ATI, I felt that I should have the similar IQ as Einstein.   Anyway, I am seriously thinking about going back to ATI 2014 version.   After updating 6027, I would like to ask you more basic questions if I could not figure it out again.   Thank you again.

Don't try to carry over tasks from prior versions.  Start your new 2016 nstall with all new backup tasks. New task names plus new names for the storage folders.

The custom backup schemes all work the same 2014-2015-2016

I am re- reading your post listd above.  I see the "rename" box.  To me, you are referrring to renaming a folder name not tib file name.

Am I wrong?

Ok.  I will un-install 2016 ATI.  After downloading 6027 build, I am going to re-install and follow your instrcution.

Thanks again.

The TI option "Rename" is referring to changing the name of the backup task which then also changes the names of the future tib backup files.

It has no relationship with the names of the folders.

Just now, I tested.  As you have shown, I clicked the downward arrow on the right (in the circle).  It popped up "rename".  When I changed the name, it changed the folder name.   I am confused.     Anyway, 2016 is too hard to work with.  Even monkey can do job easiy on version of 2014 and its prior versions.   I wonder why Acronis people are producing such tough versions to me.

Re-read my first posting above (post #3). It answers your question on how what can be renamed. When you click the "rename" function, you are changing the name of the backup task--you are not changing the name of the folder. The name of the future tib file will be the same name as the task name is before the backup is performed.

If you want your tib files to be a certain name, then the task name must read the desired  name before the backup is performed. Saving the backup task as a non-scheduled task (or a scheduled later)  give you a chance to "rename" the task to a a name of your choosing.

GroverH,

First of all, i would like to apoligize to you that i did not do correctly when you advised me earlier.   Yesterday, I repeated it again.   This time, it worked nicely and flawlessly.   Now, things are a lot easier to back up with ATI 2016 version  thanks to your help.  I thank you again.

I have another question for you.  How to perform RESTORE from the main page?  The only way to restor seems  to use a bootable rescue CD or flashdrive.  Yes, it worked with flashdrive.  But the compute must be rebooted to use the rescue media.   How can I restore archived tib file in the Windows in the same way as with 2014 or earlier ATI versions (without rebooting the computer)?

Restoring when booted from the TI RecoveryCD is the best and most trouble free method.

Restoring from within Windows requires a reboot so the actual restore is performed after the reboot and restore is performed by Linux--same as the when booted from the CD.

This is what Acronis has to say in their 2016 Webhelp file located along the left margin.

Thank you.  I was looking around the Acronis main page.  As shown in the attachment, I renamed the first backfile by ATI 2016 as "office_2016".  In that page, I see Recover Disks and Recover Files (see attachment).   What are these for?  Does Recover Disks  mean Restore Disks?

My second question is whether there is a way to name subsequent backup files automataicaly Office_2016 2,  Office_2016 3,  and so on?

Yes, Recover and Restore have the same meaning and procedures.  Booting from the CD still offers the best method for a Restore/Recovery.

Ys, it is possible to add an incremental number to your task name each time the backup task runs, but in order for that to happen it requires a few minutes of your time for some research and your using NOTEPAD to edit one of your backup scripts. The answer can be found in the first posting is next link.

https://forum.acronis.com/forum/91956

Note the colorful line which contains these words.

@TASK@_@MACHINE@_@USER@_BU@EXEC@_D@DATE@_T@TIME@_.TIB"

You will need to edit that line so it reads

@TASK@_@EXEC@.TIB"

But before you can add the change, you need to locate which specific script file needs to be changed. It is the script file which contains the contents for each backup task.
The task name you want is the "Office_2016" which will have a file name of "Office_2016_Full_B1_S1_v1.tib"
Note the date and time of the last tib backup file created by your specific backup task to which you want to add the number.

Then, find the matching date/time on a single the script files. Path to scripts folder is next.

C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts\

1. Use NOTEPAD to open the script file and use the search function as illustrated in my posting.
2. Add to "_@EXEC@_" at the end of the word "@task@" but before the ".tib". No quotes but be sure and add the underline at the beginning & end.
3. Perform the file save so your changes are saved. Close notepad.
4. The next time the task creates a backup, the backup number will increment from "OFFICE_2016" to "Office_2016_2" and the normal _Full_B2_S1_v1.tib" will be added. The actual incrementing number will be number of times this specific task has created prior tib files; so if you already have one tib backup file created by this task, then the next run will create "Office_2016_2" plus the Acronis nuumbering code.

No double you have questions but re-reading the guide several times and sample script edit will answer your questions because item #2 shows you where and what must be added to your script file.

Task Basics:

Only one task needed for repeat backups of the same data. Repeat backups accomplished by using the option "Backup Now" or via a schedule which repeats.

Any new task is for something differeent such as different items being backed up or, storage to a different location.
NEVER use the same task name more than once. Each task name must differ from another to avoid confusion by the program and the user.
