How to proceed from ATIH2012 Trial Version to True Image 2013 from Acronis?

Thread needs solution

I have been trialing Acronis True Image Home 2012 (ATIH2012) for the last couple weeks and satisfactorily completed evaluation today (Aug 29, 2012).
I logged in to the Acronis website with anticipation to make a purchase today and it seems True Image 2013 has been introduced/become available as the upgrade for ATIH2012 while I was busy trialing away.
OK, now what to do?
I do not have ATIH2012, I have a trial version of ATIH2012.
Any suggestions for how to proceed with purchasing True Image 2013 from Acronis so as to not have to uninstall ATIH 2012 trial version and lose backups and backup settings established during trial period?

Thanks for your advice.

You can purchase the 2013 version and install over the top of 2012. Your backups will not be affected, but you may want to export your tasks and settings. This can be done in the 2012 version on the Tools and Utilites tab. After installing 2013 if the tasks and settings are not retained, you can import them from your exported file. You may have to create new schedules for your tasks. Common pratice for longtime users of Acronis True Image products is to create new backup tasks pointing to new empty backup destination folders and REMOVE the old tasks (not DELETE the backups) from the Backup and Recovery tab any time a new version or new build of a version is installed. After successful backups have completed, you could then delete the old backups if you wish, or keep them as additional recovery points.

James,

Thank you for the very handy suggestions for managing backups with new versions or new builds of a version.

Just so I am sure, is installing the 2013 version over the top of 2012 the same as upgrading ATIH2012 trial version to TI2013?
For example, at the bottom of the "Acronis True Image Home" window with ATIH2012 trial version, I see "This is a trial version of the product. Days remaining:11. Enter serial number".
When I click "Enter serial number" an ATIH2012 window pops up prompting for the purchased-product serial number.
So, a TI2013 serial number will work in this window, the serial number does not have to be an ATIH2012 product serial number?

Or is the proposal that I can purchase 2013 version and just install it separately from the currently installed ATIH2012 trial version, as if the ATIH2012 trial version were not already installed?

Or other meaning that I didn't realize?

I am hesitant about the ATIH2012 30-day trial period ending in 11 days and triggering an unwanted issue in TI2013.
That is, I would expect that ATIH2012 would handle an upgrade from ATIH2012 trial version, with no problem, but will TI2013 also gracefully and completely handle the ATIH2012 trial version so that the ATIH2012 trial timer that is set to expire in 11 days will not cause an interruption in operation of TI2013 or similar undesired effect?

Thanks again for your advice.

Mike S,

If you are still in the 30day period, you should consider getting your money back on 2012 and use it to buy 2013. If you didn't pay for 2012, you will have to pay for a full version at one point or another. If you bought 2012 recently, you might be eligible for a free upgrade. Check with Acronis. If you have only the trial version, you should uninstall it. Then install the trial version of 2013 and start from there.

2013 is supposed to be much better at installing over the top of 2011 and 2012. Since, like James, I recommend to keep backups of different versions separate, I recommend you uninstall a previous version, reboot and install the new version. Some expert users recommend to do the same when you update the build number.

Pat,

Thank you for your reply and recommendations.
Since I have only the trial version of 2012, I will take the route of uninstall 2012 trial version, reboot, and install 2013 trial version, run some test scenarios, and then initiate a purchase from the 2013 trial version... and will create new destinations for the 2013 version backups as recommended by you and James.

Thanks again for your time and advice.
