How to Reassign C drive

Thread needs solution

I installed a second WD SATA drive and used the clone utililty. Since my original drive was nearly full, my goal was to use the new drive as my C drive. After cloning, my new drive was labelled G and my original drive remained as C. I would like to swap the designations so my new drive is used as C.

If you wnat to clone your system drive and use the clone as the new system drive you must remove the original dirve before you reboot with the new drive in place. Otherwise Windows will guess which drive is the real system drive.

Best way to do this is to install the new drive where your original dirve was. Do a clone from the boot CD. Then boot up. then you can shut down, isntall the old drive in a new location inthe machine and boot up and everything shoudl be fine.

Alternatively, you can clone with both drives atached. But when the cloning is done, don't reboot until you remove the original drive and install the new drive in its place, then boot up. Afte that you can install the old drive in a new locaton on the machine.
