How to rerun an incremental backup?

Thread needs solution

I want to delete the last of a series of incremental backups that I have made with Acronis True Image Home 2009, and redo it. I tried this once before by simply deleting the file. However when I reran Acronis, without warning it deleted the original full backup and made a new full backup, causing me to lose not only the original backup but all the incremental backups I'd made since then. Two questions and a suggestion:

(1) How can I safely delete the last incremental backup file and rerun the backup?

(2) If I make the existing backup files read-only, will this prevent Acronis from deleting them, no matter what the circumstances?

(3) Suggestion: It would certainly be user-friendly to have Acronis provide a warning before taking an action as drastic as deleting all one's previous backups.

Thanks for any help!

Hello Coffent,

Let me assist you.

1. Acronis True Image Home 2009 keeps a database of the created backup archives and their location on the machine. When you start Acronis True Image Home 2009, it refers to this database to display the available backup archives.

The database is stored in the following folder:

/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Acronis/TrueImageHome/Database/archives.xml (Windows XP)

So if you manually delete the archive with Windows Explorer, then the database became corrupted and this will force True Image to create a new chain of backups.

  • To delete the archive, you should use True Image:
  • Click Backup and Restore on the sidebar;
  • Select Manage and Restore;
  • Right-click the latest incremental archive you want to delete and select Remove.

Now you have your backup removed and the information in the database of the product is up to date and correct.

2. If you make all archive files read-only, it might cause some errors, so it is not recommended.

3. Thank you very much for your suggestion, I'll pass it to the appropriate person and probably this feature will be implemented in next versions of Acronis True Image.

Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.
