How to restore a clone from a larger to smaller original disk?

Using TI 8 I have cloned a hard disk to occupy (the whole of) a larger drive with larger partitions than the original. If I wish to restore it to the original smaller drive will it be accommodated in the original partitions (assuming they have not been wiped and re-partitioned)? I realise it would have been better to image the original drive, and I have read Grover's note on cloning in the Stickys.
