How to restore one file from full disk backup under Windows
I have Windows 7 Pro x64 and installed TIH 2012, build 6131 yesterday. I've made a full disk backup to an external USB drive. (Actually three, the initial and two more incremental backups.) To test these I would like to try to restore one or more files from the backup.
The user manual seems to say that I can do this, but it refers to a "file explorer" mode in TIH that I cannot find. I also tried to "mount" the backup as a logical drive and received an error message that TIH could not assign a drive letter, even though the drive letters that TIH wanted to use are unassigned.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the hint about the cogwheel. I also learned today that I can right click the backup and that will also open the "explore and recover window. I do wonder, however, why this is not an option on the main menu.

I, too, appreciate this hint because, like dev-anon, I was totally flumoxed by the 2012 interface, which is one of the least user-friendly, least intuitive interfaces among the dozens of applications that I use regularly. In order to sell an "upgrade", too many software companies fiddle with the interface and/or add marginally useful features to give the impression that the upgrade offers something new. I dumped Quicken several years ago when it grew into a monstrous nightmare and my CPA threatened to charge me more if I continued to provide my financial information in a Quicken file. I soon discovered that a simple Excel file, which I created myself, was easier to keep up to date and provided more useful information than Quicken. Unfortunately, Acronis jumped the same shark when it introduced 2012. I just need a simple, reliable backup and recovery system, so I am returning to the previous version, which worked fine and doesn't require me to ascend another learning curve.

One of my pdf guides below may be beneficial on copying or mounting.

The link below could also help in location some of the 2012 program features.
