How to setup automatic daily backup having multiple users logged and using hibernation?
Hi there,
I am running Acronis True Image Home version 2010 build 7.160.
I am trying to setup a schedule that makes a daily incremental backup of of the system disk (c:\). The computer is running Windows 7 32 bit.
Several users (4) work on this pc, the pc is normally not switched off but uses "Hibernation mode". Furthermore, users are not logged off and multiple users are logged on at the same time (users are switched but not logged off).
How should I set up the scheduler? I have been trying a lot of things but I can not get it to work :-(
Is this possible?
Making a manual backup works fine.
Thanks!

A back up cannot run if the system is hibernating.

Try using the Windows Task Scheduler for waking and stating the backups.
Click and the green first line of my signature below and locate index item 3-B. It is an old link but could be helpful setting up the scheduler.

Hi GroverH,
Thanks for your reply!
I assume you mean this link to item 3B:
-3. Grover's Guides & Miscellaneous Information
BB. How to Backup 2010 or 2009
Unfortunately the link behind "BB" has gone, it directs to the general forum url now (http://forum.acronis.com/forum/) while the others (A, C, D etc.) are linked to a specific posting.
But I assume the link would be about making a batch file with command line options? I was already thinking about doing something like that with the Windows Task Scheduler. Unfortunately, there is no option inTrue Image Home version 2010 to export a (complicated) backup task to command line options :-(

This is the link I was referencing. It is not specific to you but illustrates how to perform the steps needed to achieve the use of the Windows scheduler. I am using 2013 so have no access to 2010 but a search of the forum about desktop shortcuts may be of assistance. If you have specific questions, ask again after looking at the refernces.

Thanks a lot, I did not know about this ["C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageHomeNotify.exe" /script:2D4002DC-E809-43B9-A5CF-F9250B0F8C13] command.
I think I can get it to work just the way I had imagined with Windows Scheduler with the scheduler set to carry out this task every day at a certain time and tick the option "run if task is missed".
I will check if that works the coming days and post the result!

Item 3-H and 3-R of my same index can be helpful about shortcuts--should you have issues.
Each version of TrueImage Home seems to differ as to the commands needed to enable TI to run a task via shortcuts.
The option "run if task is missed" can be a real pain. If you missed the backup and then you bootup, it will start to run immediately following the bootup. The creation of the backup will be ok--it just slows using the computer while a backup is being created.

Ano, Ano. Grover's suggestions are excellent and I hope they allow you to get the back ups you need. I was under the impression that this machine was being put into hibernation frequently throughout the day. I understand now this is not the case.
To minimize the impact to system users, you should try to schedule the incremental snapshots to occur when no one is using the machine or when the least number of users are logged in. Waking the machine at night (or when this normally occurs) might help. Sorry I misunderstood your desired outcome.

Thanks shadowsports, I followed your suggestion and scheduled the backup task in the middle of the night and ticked to wake the machine at that time. In this way the backup does not cause any inconvenience for the users (i.e. my children ;-).
However, I am surprised that this actually seems to work in the intended way I always thought that this type of waking is only possible when the machine is in 'standby' mode, but not in 'hibernation' mode...

Ano Ano,
If you are using the shortucts for backup creation, perhaps you might post your results in this link where a user is asking for help with shortcuts and 2010. Thanks.

Hi, I did not use the shortcut option but I just copied [C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageHomeNotify.exe" /script:2D4002DC-E809-43B9-A5CF-F9250B0F8C13] into Windows scheduler.
