Ii have a lenovo t530 running windows 7 pro 64 bit.  I have acronis ti 13.  I want to switch out my 450 GB HDD and replace it with a 1 or 2 TB ssd.  I would buy the type that fits in my 2 1/2 inch drive bay.  I would assume that I need to make an image with my acronis and then use that to format my new ssd.  I need some help from some of you experts who know how to do this.

Forgot to mention after the post. There are complications with drives of 2 TB or more on TI 2013, and I'm not familiar with what to do in those cases. Anyway, there are a few ways to do it. I have a Lenovo M82 tower which has room for two internal drives. I also have an external USB hard drive. One way is this one. If you have an external USB hard drive, then you can create and save a full image of the HDD on it, replace the HDD with the SSD, and restore the image of the HDD that was saved on the external drive, onto the SSD. Experienced users always recommend booting from and using the Acronis recovery disk (same as the software install disk) to perform recovery of images, as it eliminates any corruptions in the current OS that might cause probelms.

A second way which I've never done, (and there are also a few other ways) is more common to laptops. You need a cable like in this link below that will connect to the SSD externally via a USB port. I actually just purchased it and it worked well with my computer. But it can only power 2.5 inch drives.

This link below shows how to use the TI clone feature to copy the older HDD onto to the new SSD. Your HDD would be in the laptop. Again, boot from the TI recovery disk. Good luck!! You would be cloning the internal HDD onto the SSD, connected via the USB to SATA cable. After the cloning is finished, you would then place the SSD inside the laptop.

Let me clarify.  The drive I want to replace is a hdd, not a ssd.  I want to replace my 450 GB hdd with a 1 or 2 tb ssd drive.  If necessary I can upgrade my acronis.   If I do that, do you see any problems?

OK. You are replacing a HDD with a SSD, in a laptop. The older SSD I mentioned is actually your HDD. Everything I wrote previously still applies. I'll edit my original post.
