HP 2000-bf69WM laptop and UEFI?

Thread needs solution

I just d/l the TI 2013 upgrade. I also just bought my daughter an HP 2000-bf69WM laptop. I then find out about UEFI [ROM?]?

First, does TI 2013 support it for backups? Secondly, will I have a problem -- aside from drivers -- if I want to "downgrade" the laptop to Windows 7?

What I want to be able to do, while the machine is new with no personal files on it is wipe the drive and install Windows 7. But to do that, I surely have to be aware of drivers [will the W-7 drivers be the same or compatible with the W-8 drivers?], but then, now I find that BIOS also may be an issue.

Is it? Are they?

Chuck,

From within Windows there is no problem, what you will need to do though is make and run the recovery CD and see if it will boot successfully. It is possible that it will complain, if it does, you need to go into the BIOS of the laptop and change the BIOS entry for UEFI to Legacy.

Obviously you need to switch it back before booting a recovered image.

If HP are offering either a Win 7 option or driver downloads for Win 7 for this model you will need to download and install them. I'm assuming your copy of Windows 7 is a retail copy, if you are installing on a blank drive in this machine then all the basic drivers will be installed and your laptop will boot allowing you to install the HP specific ones later. For example a fingerprint reader or camera might not work until you've downloaded the HP drivers, but the laptop will boot.

I don't mean to complicate matters, but with Windows 8 it will allow you to install a virtual OS which could be your Windows 7 (is your W7 Ultimate or Enterprise?). Assuming your laptop drive has the space of course. You would see the Windows 8 boot manager which would offer the choice of W8 or W7 to run.
