HP ProBook 4740S won't boot after Disk Clone Command

Thread needs solution

Hi, I wanted to clone my 750 Gb HD with my HP ProBook 4740S Windows 8 laptop using True Image 2013, especially purchased for this purpose, but after rebooting to execute the Disk Clone command the HP won't start up anymore because of this message "Selected boot image did not authenticate".
Now I cannot do anything and am stuck with this awkward situation.
How can I kill the Disk Clone command if I remove the HD and connect it to another PC as an external HD?
Or any other suggestions appreciated.
I hate to restore the whole PC (again).

Thanks, Dries.

You need to do the cloning from the Acronis recovery CD, not from Windows.
You need to disable secure boot, enable legacy boot in the BIOS to use the recovery CD.
Before trying to reboot, enable UEFI and secure boot to boot back.
Reboot with the clone on the same connector as the original disk, WITHOUT the original disk in the computer.

I don't think that will work now the damage has been done. All I want now is to be able to access my ProBook without the execution of the pending Disk Clone command.
Is there a way of removing this command when I access the drive externally, as an external HD?
That would solve my immediate problem.

You will have to repair the startup of your computer with the Windows installation DVD.

In addition to Pat's comments about disabling Secure Boot, you are trapped by the fact you started the clone in Windows which as you are cloning the OS drive will auto reboot into Linux, then you hit the Secure Boot problem. Starting from the Recovery CD means there is no reboot so Secure Boot can be disabled allowing a clone to take place. Obviously you can't disable it to boot into Windows as Windows won't boot due to the Secure Boot requirement by Microsoft with OEM PC manufacturers.

I think you would still be able to clone from the recovery CD by disabling the SB and changing the UEFI to legacy mode. I would also 'reverse' clone whereby the new drive is inserted into the laptop and the old drive is in the external caddy.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Unfortunately I do not think the bios has a legacy option, in which case I would have installed Win 7 from the start, but is not allowed by the bios.
Anyway, I will have a further look at when I'm back from holiday.
Happy new year!

Dries,

The BIOS might say something like CM instead of Legacy.
