I create backup of whole disk, but Acronis want me to configure each partition manually on Target disk

Thread needs solution

I create whole disk images of automotive nav system hard drives. Some whole disk images ask me to configure the target partitions manually during restore and another disk image creates all partitions automatically (this is what I need). I can't think of anything I am doing differently to get this different result.

The disk images that create the target partitions automatically restore to blank drives, or previously used drive with some other partition structure, it doesn't matter.

Some whole disk images ask me to configure the target partitions manually during restore

This is because you are selecting partitions rather than selecting disks for the backup. Even if you select all partitions, you are still creating a partition backup and will require individual configuration during a restore. Look at my signature link 2A and look at the very first pictucre.

For the easiest restore so that you are not asked to configure the partitions manuall, you need to choose the "select disk mode" option so what you are selecting your disk rather than selecting partitions. This disk mode will backup all partitions and is the best method of backup for most people.

A review of the entire 2A link may be of assistance--including the listing of GH links at the end of 2A.

Is is possible to make a Disk-Image with Acronis 2014 Home ?

I just started over with same result . . I selected "backup disks and partitions", then I select the box at the top for the drive I want to backup, that checks all the partitions, then unselect another drive that was selected by default.

But every time I do this the "Recover Disks and Partitions" operation, want me to configure each partition.

I am running Acronis for a boot USB. I don't think this happened when I ran it from a CD . . Ill try that.

I just tried Acronis 2012 Home from a CD with the same result. . . can't create a disk image, in recovery it always want me to configure target partitions.

But every time I do this the "Recover Disks and Partitions" operation, want me to configure each partition.

When selecting what is to be restored, are you selecting the checkbox beside the disk?

Click on my signature link 3 and review item 2. This item 2 (disk option recovery) illustrates where the program will not cause you to configure the partitions. In fact, it bypasses partition cofiguration and takes you checikmarking the disk to be restored and the next screen is where you select the target disk.

I am sorry, I found that my problem was the use of the Recovery CD which does not have all of the options. However, the recovery CD will create a Disk Image of some multi-partition hard drives and not others. (I have several disk images make with the Acronis 2014 Home Recovery CD . . . just certain disk configurations create the problem I described)

When I installed the Arconis 2014 on my computer then I could make choices that worked correctly.

Thank You

Thank you for the clarification. Does the problem configuatins involve GPT style partitioning?

On some of the disk images created with the 2014 Home version I get the GPT dialog box during recovery and on some I don't. I don't know what that really means, but my disk imaging and restore process works fine, if I tell it not the change the partitoning style during recovery.

Thanks Again
