Image backup deleted on disk manually. Can't remove it from ATI backup list

Thread needs solution

I somehow deleted an image backup on disk. Since ATI can't find the backup it returns an error when I try and change backup settings. It also won't let me delete the backup from the backup list. I've tried both options. The screen refreshes like it did something but then the backup is still listed. Is there a way to remove the backup from the list manually?

Thanks

My recommendation is when a backup task needs changing or fixing--don't!

Instead create a new task with the correct settings and cease to use or delete the old backup task so it becomes a non-factor.
From within the backup task, have you tried either the "remove from list" option? or the delete option. Both options by clicking the Gear wheel (extrme right) and these tho opitons become available.

Thanks.
Yes I tried both but the backup is still listed.
I just hoped there was a way to delete it in the registry or something. I'll create a new backup.
Thanks again.

Try validating the image and you may be able to work your way thru the error messages until it clears old listings.

ATI 2013 on Windows 7. My external backup drive is getting full and I'd like to delete some of the old backups. Every time I manually try to delete a backup Acronis freezes. Also when I click on the wheel some other instructions besides Delete (red X) like Remove from the list also freezes the screen. I have to use Windows Task Manager to end the Acronis session. I have to have some more space on external drive this is driving me nuts, can someone please help?

What type backups are you wanting to delete?
If incremental are involved, either none or all must be deleted, or keeping the full alone.
If differential involed, the oldest can be deleted keeping the newer and the full.

If all are just Full backups, then each is standalone and any can be deleted.

I would do the deletions via Windows Explorer and start new tasks in 2013 with all new backups but configure the new ones to use automatic cleanup.

------------------------------------------------

Depending upon the type of backup scheme you wish to create, here is an example of each type. These can be set up for Disk image, or Partiton, or Files-folders backups. These example show how to set up automatic cleanup so the program will do the deletion after it reaches your set goal of how many chains to retain.

Editing an existing task is not recommended. Rarely does an edited task perform to user expectations. It is usually better to start with a new task using a new non-identical task name and point to a new storage sub-folder so each task has it own storage folder/sub-folder. Old task can be stopped or deleted from the task listings.

Thanks for your reply. I am doing incremental full backups of C-Partition and/or D-Partition. I prefer doing it manually as needed and keep it simple without automatic cleanup. Every backup has a unique name and folder. So, since each backup is a full stand alone backup I should be able to delete it from Windows Explorer. I'll try that and hopefully not have any problems. I still don't understand why does ATI hang up when deleted from it's own program?

Correction: I meant to say I am doing incremental backups and not incremental full backups. Sorry about the typo.

Beginning with the 2012 (give or take a year), Acronis started using a history file and EVERYTHING is tracked. Now, if you delete a file manuallyl, it is aware and has difficulty adjusting and sometimes cannot adjust. Acroinis provides no means of deleting a continuing backup in 205-2016. Once you have performed a manual deletion of an active task, the program is out of sync and gives off messages such a "cannot find version ????".
One step you can take to help following a deletion is to begin a validation and respond "ignore" each time you get the error prompt so you may have to respond ignore several times. Once you have responded to the error prompts, often times (not always) you can continue to use the task. Your finding the "REcover files" may be another method of updating the history files just like the validation does.

I would strongly encourage you to set up new tasks using the automatic cleanup as outlined in post #5. Using this cleanup method, will keep the history file in sync and the deletion will be done by the program. Using automtic cleanup provides for you to set your quota of how many backup CHAINS you wish to keep and the program will delete the oldest chain after your goal and been reached and then exceeded. Basically, its like an escalator. The escalator is full. A new backup gets added at the bottom and the oldest gets dropped off at the top.

I apologize for the misinformation, I found out that all my backups have been incremental and NOT full backups. I don't know why I always thought that all my backups have been full backups. I have decided to start with a clean slate and only do full backups, old history doesn't concern me. Thanks again for your suggestions.
