Image different after virus attack...!
Hi all,
After I was attacked by a virus, I lost my data and Windows wasn't able to restart (There was no Windows operating system found during booting).
So, fortunately, I could restart with Acronis Bootable disk and install my last image (SystemImage).
So fine so good. but, I got then the message, that my Windows has the wrong Product-Key. And indead, it was the wrong one! I guess the virus crashed my pc and has stolen my Windows 7 Product-Key.
My question: How is this possible? I though when you image something, you got the exactly identical copy!
thanks a lot.

A few days ago my Windows 7 x64 started rebooting and displaying the BSOD (blue screen of death). I restored a working copy of Windows 7 using the Acronis boot disk but the problem was still there - BSOD and restarting. I had restored that Acronis image several times before with no problems at all. In fact I have two different images made with Acronis 11 and now none of them were working - BSOD. I tried restoring an image of XP Professional - this time the BSOD was not there but the OS kept crashing or freezing very often. All of these Acronis images were made with Acronis 11 and had been tested and working with no problems before. While in XP I tried to restore one of the images using Acronis within the OS. It would go through the usual process but after the re-start prompt in order to continue with the restoratin it would boot into XP without going through the resotoration process. I have made no hardware changes at all to my PC.
I had to make a fresh Windows installation from scratch and delete all my previous images to get things back to normal and now everything is fine. Is it possible that a virus corrupted all my Acronis images and prevented Acronis from restoring them (Restoration was only possible with the Acronis boot disk)? Would much appreciate your input on this.

I doubt that virus could damage image in the way that they restore ok but alter its content so that the OS crashes after.
