Image Entire Hard Drive?

Thread needs solution

I'm thinking of buying True Image 2013. I want to use it to image the hard drive on my new Win8 laptop before attempting to downgrade to Win7.

If I image the entire hard drive, will it preserve the bootloader and the recovery partition? Will I be able to restore this hard drive image / state at any point in the future?

My concern is that formatting the hard drive will likely void the warranty and so I'll need to reimage to stock before RMAing the laptop (if it ever breaks).

Thanks.

Alex,

Yes you will be able to image the complete disk and restore, this is what I do with my laptops.

There is one thing to be aware of though, at the moment the recovery CD (based on Linux) doesn't always recognise systems with Secure Boot or UEFI, which your laptop will almost certainly be set up with due to it being a native Windows 8 system. The workaround is, when restoring disable the secure boot option in the BIOS and set the UEFI to legacy. this relates to the current build of 2013:5551. I believe the secure boot problem will be fixed in a future build of 2013 and will probably include the UEFI fix as well.

I should have added - when the W8 system is recovered, secure boot and UEFI needs to be switched back on so that windows 8 can boot and know it is a valid copy.
