Image has over written data that I need to get back

Thread needs solution

Hello,

We use Acronis and sell it to all of our customers. Occasionally someone screws up and restores the PC and doesn’t realize that they should have backed up there data before restoring it!

UNFORTUNATELY,

We have just thrown an image over the top of one of our customer's hard drives and must get this data back. I KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN SOONER OR LATER AND IT DID

We currently use GetDataBack but it cant get under the image to see the data???

Help please ASAP.................what data recovery program can do the job

Sincerely,

Daniel Taft, Sr.

Daniel:

I'm afraid that you're out of luck. When you restore an image it overwrites any previous information on the disk. Sometimes there may be fragments of files that resided in sectors that were not written over, and the only recourse then is programs like GetDataBack. If you've tried this and can't find any recoverable files, then you are probably out of luck.

This won't be of help now, but a possibility to consider in the future is to get in the habit of creating an image of a customer's disk before doing anything to it. Then you have a Plan B to recover from mistakes since you have the ability to mount the image file to recover files that are needed but were written over on the disk.
