Incremental backup, user initiated

Thread needs solution

I want to make an incremental backup manually at times of my choosing.

To protect my backup usb hdd from any risk of malware I only connect it when I want to make a backup. When I bought True Image 2014 I expected to be able to make an incremental backup at times of my choosing. So far I've only found a pre-timed option which would mean having the pc on, being at the pc and then remembering to connect, which just hasn't worked.

Is it possible to use it in the way I want or have I puchased a product unsuitable for my requirements?

You can manually start a backup. Configure your backup according to the documentation: http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATIH2014/index.html#…. Note the button "Back up now" on the dialog box. You can trigger a backup manually any time you want by clicking on this button.

On the Scheduler page, http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATIH2014/index.html#…, choose "Do not schedule".

Or, you can configure the backup to occur on an event: http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATIH2014/index.html#…

Peter,
If you create an incremental task and don't set a schedule, that task can be run on-demand. The first BU will be a full, subsequent BU's will be incrementals. If you connect other devices, and the drive letter for the destination in your task is not what Acronis is expecting, then the task will fail since Acronis will not be able to find the first full in the chain. Assigning a drive letter to the external "only connect sometimes" drive using a letter near the end of the alphabet that other devices won't grab when attached usually resolves this problem.
