Incremental Backups All Gone!?
Hi,
I recently bought Acronis True Image 2012, and also purchased about the same time a 4TB Seagate GOFlex external drive. I chose the default incremental backup settings and the program went ahead and did a full backup with no problems (apparently). It did another 4 incremental backups without a hitch, and then tonight everything seemingly went wrong! As usual I clicked the Backup Now button, and then a minute or 2 later it came up with this strange message: "Insert the last volume of the multi-volume backup for appending an incremental backup. Cannot create an incremental backup because the drive is empty or is not ready."
Now I'm pretty darn sure the drive was ready and it certainly wasn't empty (and nowhere near full either). I tried clicking on the gear symbol button and tried 'Validate'. I can't remember exactly what the message said but it said something about the 4th version couldn't be accessed. It gave me a few buttons to choose from and then I got similar messages for the 3rd, 2nd and 1st versions. After that I was astonished to find the main Acronis window said that my drive now had NO backups - there was no recover button!
So what in heaven's name is going on? How can I rely on your software when it does this? I mean, I wasn't asking it to do rocket science. So how can I avoid this happening again?
David.

David,
For informational purposes, I would also be interested in knowing how many partitions the 4TB box has and would you also look at the 4T when viewed using the Windows disk Management graphical view. How does Windows describe the type of disk for the 4TB. Is it listed as basic or dynamic or ?

It has, according to Windows, a Healthy Primary Partition, and it's listed as 'Basic'.

==> it is possible that the internal database of ATI lost track of some backups.
+1 -- had this happen a lot with 2012, but less with U1. Are you using the latest build? When ATI looses a backup chain, you can sometimes browse for the actual backup files and access them directly. But it is really better to delete the task and create a new one. Are the actual backup files still on the machine? After you delete the backup task, check to see if the files are cleaned-up. If not, then you can delete them manually to recover the disk space.
