Install problem: TI 2010 will not install. I get error "MicrosoftVC80.CRT.publickeytoken....."

Thread needs solution

Please, Please help!

I've been trying to install ATI Home Upgrade 2010 (build 5055) from ATI 2009 (which I had uninstalled first) for the past 1 1/2 weeks but keep getting the following error:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.762",processor Architecture="x86"'.
Please refer to Help and Support for more information.

And then the installer rolls back the install.

I tried online tech support with Sanjay Meena (support case #00324327) which didn't help (I've been awaiting a reply to my e-mail for over a week in which I told him that his online suggestions didn't work - seemingly nice person though).  I've been searching everywhere and trying everything I find to solve the problem and nothing has worked (including the MSDN network).  This includes installing .net Framework 1.0sp3, 1.1 sp1, attempting a repair on 3.5 sp1, installing with all non-Microsoft services and start-ups disabled through the msconfig function, trying to install in safe-mode (but ATI requires MSI to be installed which isn't available under safe-mode), etc.

I found a reference to a very similar problem on this forum but the moderator had asked for a log file and then no further posts.  Noting this, I have included the MSI log file for my installation problem.  If anyone has had a similar problem and found a solution please post your solution since it seems that many people are having the same problem with other programs and getting almost exactly the same error.

Thanks for any help - I need to be able to back-up!

Are you running Vista?

Comments on similar errors suggest that a later version of this assembly is installed with some Vista service pack and the "fix" is to not try to install the older version.

If that's the case, then the installer needs to be a bit smarter about checking what's already installed on the target system.

I have exactly the same problem. From what I can see on the Microsoft support forum and a couple of others, Bert is right. There is a later version of the assembly installed with the Vista service pack, and the system won't allow the earlier version to be installed, so it shuts down the overall Acronis installation. But we need somebody from Acronis to find a solution or workaround to the problem. No such luck yet.

Sorry about that, I should have included at least some basic information about my system.

Yes, I'm running Vista Ultimate w/sp2 on a home-built system using an EVGA Mobo (780i) with an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU @ 2.66GHz cooled by a Bigwater liquid cooling system, 4gb RAM, 1TB Main HD and 2 500 GB HD's set up in a RAID 0 configuration, a 4th 250gb drive minimally configured with Vista Ultimate for emergency restoration purposes, and finally two NVidia GeForce 8800GTX video cards SLI'd together, all in-cased in an NVidia full tower case.

Furthermore, I keep all software, drivers, etc. as up-to-date as I possibly can.

Interestingly, I have come across many, many cases online where people are having similar problems installing many other software (including myself not being able to install an update to XaraXtreme 5 or an Update to PagePlus X4) programs and getting almost exactly the same message with minor changes on the token value and /or the version value. In every case they have tried everything suggested without success and being told (by MCSE's) that the next step was to do a in-place re-install of the OS or a clean install.

This is something that I'm trying to avoid with great passion since I just went through that experience for the 2nd time (in two years) several months ago do to a corruption of the OS caused by a faulty partitioning program and a failed back-up. I just can't reinstall all of the software I have on the system because of them being time limited free software, downloaded software without the original install files, etc. The last thing I will do!

Hello John,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

You may try the following workarounds:

- Disable any antivirus software and repeat installation.

- Install as Administrator, right click on installation file -> Run As -> Administrator

- Install for All users.

If the issue still persist open support case and attach MSI log file and sysinfo to your request.

- Open Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information;
- Choose the "Save" option in the "File" menu (or "Action" menu under Windows 2000), enter the "File name" and set the field "Save as type" to "System Information File (*.NFO)";

Acronis Customer Service is available here, contact us and have these files at hand.

I am also coming across this exact problem. I installed as administrator, and installed for all users. In addition, I turned off all my anti-virus and spyware protection. Still no install with the same error.

How do I open a support case?

Thanks for any help, but know that I will return the software if this issue cannot be resolved in a timely manner.

I am also coming across this same exact problem (MS VC.80.CRT...). I have tried to install as administrator, installed for all users, and have tried all the recommendations I found in various other posts. I installed ATI Home 2010 successfully on a logical partition running Vista-Ultimate SP2, which has little to nothing installed on it.

As for my main partition (C:), I am running Vista- Home Premium. My issue my be that I have ATI Home 10.0 updated from ATI Home 9.0. I tried installing ATI Home 2010 over ATI Home 10.0 and then tried to uninstall ATI Home 10.0 before installing ATI Home 2010. Neither approach worked. I tried uninstalling ATI Home 10.0 using Windows Vista via Control Panel and Programs and Features and I also tried a freeware uninstaller. Nothing seem to work. My educated guess it that the uninstalls my be leaving some file(s) behind, which are causing
unsuccessful installs of ATI Home 2010.

Thanks in advance for any assistance on this matter.

Hello all,

Thank you very much for your posts and I would like to assure you that we are working on this issue.

At the moment we know that this installation error "Microsoft.VC80.CRT,publicKeyToken" is most probably caused by Windows. We have limited ability to investigate it from our side. We are currently working with Microsoft technicians to try and resolve this issue.

I would really appreciate if you could send us some additional information please.

Please check Oleg's post that explains how to create installation logs with our software:

We also need Windows System Information file. It can be created this way:

- Open Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information;
- Choose the "Save" option in the "File" menu (or "Action" menu under Windows 2000), enter the "File name" and set the field "Save as type" to "System Information File (*.NFO)";
- Send us the saved file.

Also, please locate the following file and send it to us: c:\Windows\Logs\Cbs\Cbs.log

After collecting all the logs please send me a private message with your e-mail address so that I can create a case and send you an e-mail to which you can reply with the information.

You can also submit a support request from your Acronis Web-Account and send me a PM with the case number.

I just submitted case 00470952 for the same problem that started this thread.

Summary:

  1. I did a fresh install of Win 7 home premium (not an upgrade)
  2. installed Acronis True Image 2010 6053
  3. everything seemed to work properly
  4. at some point (I can't pin point the exact date) something broke the ability for ATI to mount a backup.  I was still able to restore from the backup but not mount it.
  5. I attempted to repair ATI by re-installing it, but that did not fix the problem
  6. So I attempted an uninstall followed by an install
    >> about 80%+ of the way through the install it failed with the following error:
    Product: Acronis True Image Home -- Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'policy.8.0.Microsoft.VC80.CRT,publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32-policy",version="8.0.50727.762",processorArchitecture="x86"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x800736FD. assembly interface: IAssemblyCacheItem, function: Commit, component: {63E949F6-03BC-5C40-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E}
  7. I cleaned up all references to ATI from my system using the manual uninstall instructions for ATI 2009 (I didn't find any for 2010)
  8. I am now the point where the only thing I can do is use ATI from a boot CD.  I can't install it because of the error in step 6.

NOTE: when install fails and does a "rollback" it doesn't complete cleanup.  There are several entries in the registry.   If needed I can run install with the logging if that will help.  I'll just have to boot and take a drive image before trying again.

Has a solution been found for this error yet?

I'm trying to install True Image 10 on an ASUS F3S laptop running Win 7 32bit Pro.

When I do I get the error

Microsoft.VC80.CRt,publickeyToken="1fc8b3bta1c18e3b",type=Win32version"8.0.50727.762",processorArchitecture="x86"

I disable virus scanner and ran install as an administrator with the same result.

Hello Shane Jenkinson,

Thank you for your post and I will definitely assist you with this.

I appreciate the logs that you have provided us with, can you please provide us with AcronisInfo as well? I will send you a private message for details.

At the moment our Development team is still working with Microsoft technical support on this, but we will definitely update you once a solution is available.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks very much for your quick reply.. I did try to post the acronis install log but was getting an error message that the file was read only or something like a permission thing.. but that doesn't matter.

I have actually just completed a successful install of acronis true image 10.

I downloaded and installed VB Express and then did a successful install of Acronis.

So my problems are all gone... at least as far as backing up goes now..

Am I to understand this problem is still not resolved by Acronis? I have not been able to install this product for a month now.

Hello Jason,

I'll do my best to help you, but first I need some additional information from your side.

Could you please gather MS Installer log file and AcronisInfo output and attach it to your reply?

With this information I'll be able to determine what went wrong exactly during the installation and to provide you with a solution.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Thanks Ilya. I'll email it to tech support because I don't want to post them on the site.

I have installed the latest version of TI 2010 and so far it is working properly.
One thing I have not tried is uninstall.
But the problems that I was having that caused me to uninstall in the first place are now gone.

BTW. I took a disc image backup using the bootable version of TI before trying the install. Using TI to protect myself from TI!

Hello,

Jason, if you're concerned about privacy, please just send me a Private Message with the gathered information, and I'll forward it to our experts and testers.

Alan, I'm really glad that our software works fine for you.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.

I had this problem with windows 7 found it was caused by Windows Modules Installer being disabled in services set it to automatic and started it then the problem went away.

Jerry, can you please explain what you mean by "it was caused by Windows Modules Installer being disabled in services set it to automatic and started it then the problem went away."?? I am not sure what you are referring to?? Thanks

Jerry, can you please explain what you mean by "it was caused by Windows Modules Installer being disabled in services set it to automatic and started it then the problem went away."?? I am not sure what you are referring to?? Thanks

go to control panel then administrative tools then sevices
and then check windows modules installer at the bottom
make sure it is started I have mine set for manual but auto would
mean that it is started all the time

Jerry, I appreciate the response, but my Windows Modules Installer was already started and in "automatic" mode. I am trying to do this installation in Win 7 Pro.....get same error message as described at the head of this forum....seems like this issue has gone on for quite some time judging from the date of the thread and responses... I am simply trying to install TIHome10 so that I can upgrade my hard drive....but because I can't install the program, I can't install the hard drive as I would like using the "CLONE" function which is so much easier than alternative methods....frustrating....

My error message says, "an error occurred during the installation of assembly, Microsoft VC80.CRT, PublicKeyToken=1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b, Type=Win32, version=8.0.50727.762, process architecture=x86"

go google and search

windows 7 an error occurred during the installation of assembly, Microsoft VC80.CRT,

Hello all,

I wanted to update this thread with additional information.

We just released a new Knowledge Base article where this issue is being addressed. The solution applies for Acronis True Image 2010 and 2011 Home.

You can find it here:

 - Acronis True Image Home: Installation Fails with "An error occurred during the installation of assembly" "Microsoft.VC80.CRT,publicKeyToken"

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Have tried all of the suggestions above (including the Microsoft suggestions) and still get the same response:
"An error occurred duing the installation of assembly: 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.762",processor Architecture="x86"'.
Please refer to Help and Support for more information."

And then the installer rolls back the install.

Can anyone help? I am running win 7 x64 on a Dell e4300 - it is almost new - and pretty much untaited with outside software. What is up?

Hello Glenn,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your post. I will definitely help you with this issue.

Since the solution from this KB article did not resolve it, I can suggest to try System File Checker. It is a utility that scans Windows file systems and repairs them if they are missing or corrupt.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Tried SFC but still the same problem. When will this problem beeing soved. The microsoft site gives no solution.
I am running win7 X64.
please help!

Hello Cok Janssen,

Welcome to our forum and thank you for your message. I will do my best to help you with this problem.

Since the file system checker did not resolve this installation issue, as suggested in our KB article, I can recommend this workaround before contacting Microsoft support. I am sorry for any inconvenience.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hallo Anton,
Thanks for your anser but I had alredy tried that. Microsoft gifs no help for a OEMS verion of win7. Working with DOS is not an option because I never used DOS commands. So I hope that Acronis will kom with a patch or update to solve the problem. Maybey an spicified workaround manual whith the the DOS commands to us also can help. Looking on the forum it sames to be a problem for many users.
Hope you can help me out.
Cok Janssen.
