Problem is, my machine does not give me the option to boot from any disk (including an external SATA drive) other then the internal C drive, so I have no way of actually peforming a restore.

I am already doing everything else that you recommended.

Most times, the user must change the default BIOS settings to enable booting from alternate devices. The exact method varies by computer vendor. Usually the first step to make the cd as the first boot device and that setting can become the default. If you want to boot from other devices, that is a setting usually must be made each time you wish to use a specific device. The alternate device must be attached before changing the BIOS.
