"The installation was interrupted before Acronis True Image Home could be installed."

Thread needs solution

I have had absolutely no success with installation of True Image 2010. It fails and leaves the above message.

I have searched for a solution and tried:

Uninstalling using Windows, The Acronis Cleanup tool, and other 3rd party software.
Emptied the Temp folder
Turned off Antivirus and firewall
Created a new clean Admin account
Cleaned Registry
Downloaded and tried different builds

and every concept that I can find and have simply had no success at all.

I have generated an install log. (Doesn't reveal a lot to me but...)

Exasperated to the point of requesting refund as next step.
Anything new or at all helpful would be most appreciated.

Hello David,

Please accept our apologies for the difficulties you've experienced.

Let me assist you.

In order to investigate the issue and to provide you with a resolution I need some additional information. Could you please attach the created MS Installer log file to your reply to this thread? It'll allow me to find out the exact reason of the failed installation.

I am looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Hello David,

Thank you for the provided information.

Accoriding to MS Installer log, the reason of the issue is the corrupted installation of Seagate DiscWizard. I may recommend you to install the Segate software once again and after that try to install Acronis True Image. You can download the latest build of Seagate DiscWizard at http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/

If the installation fails again, please create a new MS Installer log, collect AcronisInfo and submit a support request with the gathered information.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Updating and/or removing the DW software did not prove easy.
It uninstalled ok (or seemed to) through the Windows add/remove programs interface.
The latest version refused to install throwing up an error saying that it could not uninstall previous versions. True Image still refused to install as well.

I reinstalled and uninstallled the older version of DiscWizard to no effect.
As there were still a large number of registry entries for DW present, I looked for another solution.
I used Revo Uninstaller Pro to remove all entries it could find.
This then allowed the latest DW version to install and subsequently the 2010 True Image program to also install.

So far, TIMonitor fails at start up citing a missing dll. I will work further on this.
The program seems to be otherwise complete and functional. I have created a full backup image. It did throw up several errors saying it couldn't access certain sectors. I will monitor this also.

The missing dll is the fox.dll which is raised any number of times in this forum.

Manually putting the fox.dll into the two correct folders has no effect. Uninstalling and reinstalling has no effect.

Seriously, Acronis has screwed the pooch with this release and what's worse it offers no functionality, that works as advertised, that isn't present in release 8.0. It's money for nothing, difficult to install and when you do get it installed it's broken. It's a shame.

I have given up completely now or at least I am trying to give up.

The final straw came when the program started turning on a scheduler and then even though no tasks had been scheduled by me, it started multiple processes that amongst other things, renewed my IP address. That is simply unacceptable.

Having decided to uninstall and be done with it forever, it won't even do that properly. It's left a mess of files and registry entries. It still tries to start TIMonitor on start uip even it should be fully uninstalled.

TrueImage 2008 and 2009 were good products. 2010 is possibly the most appalling piece of software that I have dealt with in years. I fear I will have to now undergo a fresh install of Windows simply to rid myself of its destructive shadow. Please find the team leader that released 2010 and kick his arse for me.

David,

What do you mean by ' the program started turning on a scheduler '?

I can't see how by itself TI can renew your IP address, I can certainly see it preventing Internet access or maybe opening ports.

Many Windows programs do leave bits of themselves (otherwise registry cleaner utility companies would be out of business) after uninstalling on purpose, however it is true that TI probably because it needs access to kernel functions leaves a bit more behind than most. I suspect that installing/uninstalling the various versions/builds and running different 'cleaner' programs has caused more problems than if left to it's own devices. Whilst this probably won't be of help for the DW version of TI, it might be worth downloading the 2010 registry cleaner. If there are bits of DW lurking, then that'll be a Seagate problem as there is no knowing what bits they've added or taken away from their badged version.

Do you, or have you, had any other Acronis software (apart from TI 2009) such as the Security Suite installed?

What OS are you using?

Do you have or have you had any Symantec products installed (COM based programs can cause unsuspecting havoc)?

Thanks for taking the time to come back.

I have no Symantec products installed and have never installed any. I have no plans to install any of their products.

OS is XP sp3.

No other Acronis software was/is installed on this machine. I have bought and used other Acronis products on other machines in the past.

True Image 8.0, 2009 and eventually, 2010 have been installed and all uninstalled. In addition, Discwizard in various versions has been installed in the past and are now uninstalled. There are a large number of registry artifacts remaining. TIMonitor, for instance, tries to run at start. That's just one.

I wasn't clear with the scheduler information. Originally it was set to back up daily. Even after disabling the daily backups, the program was activating at some level and disabling internet access. Rebooting was the only way to easily restore access - easier than hunting and killing processes that aren't supposed to be activated.

It's been a very disappointing experience for this many time repeat customer.

I will not be installing any version on any of my machines.

Janez,

1. Is this being installed as an upgrade to an earlier version?

2. Is this a retail boxed version?

I think I've found the problem, open up registry (win button + r type in regedit)

Then look in the following branches,

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UpgradeCodes

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Features

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\UpgradeCodes

For a folders named:

0B6A3A40-8E19-49BB-82FF-65C5A55F917D and delete them.

In your log file the above entry appears as,

1: MSIGEN:Determing context for {04A3A6B0-8E19-49BB-82FF-65C5A55F917D}

1: MSIGEN:Error occured during CheckForUpgradeCode for {52D526BF-E61D-4A6F-8421-17CE2D95B040}: 1605

Installed is ATIH 2010 and unistall.
I would like to reinstal ATIH 2010
Folder 0B6A3A40-8E19-49BB-82FF-65C5A55F917D not exist in registry.
Please more help.
Janez

Hmmm,

Does FB625D25-E61D-4A6F-8421-17CE2D95B040 exist?

Make sure that your Windows temporary folder is as empty as Windows will allow.

In XP it will be at c:\documents and settings\your user name\local settings\temp

In Vista and W7 it is at c:\users\your user name\appdata\local\temp

I'm a little confused, you had TIH 2010 installed, what were you trying to install in it's place?

I have windows 7 home.
He was installed TIH 2010. I deleted it and now would like to reinstalled.
Windows temporary folder i emptied.
If you are not going to work, I'll use another app
Thanks,Janez

Did you check for the second folder I mentioned in post #12?

What build of 2010 are you using?

The only other suggestion I have is to extract the installer and see if you get any further.

When the menu screen appears, right click on the 'install TIH' option and select extract. Then exit the Acronis installer and try using the MSI installer you've just extracted.

Ali,

Can I just confirm, you are trying to install AB11.5 is that correct?

The installer seems to be failing shortly after starting. What error message does Windows show?

Are you trying to install AB11.5 on a system that has had a previous version or build of either True Image or AB11.5?

Have you had an OEM version of DiskWizard installed?

Have you tried extracting the individual MSI files from the main AB11.5 installer?

I attached ScreenShot

OS : Windows Server 2008 Datacenter x64 Sp1

Acronis Version ; AcronisBackupAdvanced_11.5.43759N_trial_en-US

I extracted MSI files and I tried but I am getting this error ;

The installation was interrupted before Acronis backup could be installed. You need to restart the installer to try again.

I restarted 5 or 10 times. :)

Ali,

First check that your user temp folder is as empty as Windows will allow it to be. Check that your firewall is not blocking the installer.

Second, I'm assuming you have the correct Admin rights for installing security software. AB11.5 uses Backup Operators and Administrators group.

Have you had any other Acronis programs installed previously?

I think the best thing to do is to run the Acronis Cleanser, reboot and then try to re-install. I've attached a screenshot of the order you should install if using the separate MSI installer files.

The AB11.5 Cleaner utility is found href="https://kb.acronis.com/content/35521">here

If this still fails, you can contact Acronis support while using the trial licence.
