INSTANT Crash during validation
Im doing my first backup since restoring to a larger disk. I did a full disk image back up (validated) with no problems. Then during the files only backup it gets to validation for a while and then boom everything goes off. I turn cpu back on and get two weird pop ups about acronis (attached). Then i check the ext drive and it has both backups. I get past the pop ups (ok for 1st popup and yes for 2nd), open acronis and it shows both backups complete and validated even tho the shut down occurred with 1 hr 21min left of validation of the files only backup.
this happened on my first time selecting "validate backup when its created"
should i be worried about the program or my ext harddrive.
ok will give this a shot prob tomorrow, but what about acronis. is this a glitch, seems like a really bad problem. cant understand why this would happen
hey ive got the tests running now, is there anything i should do to the ext hard drive to check/test it afterwards. it was connected when cpu shutoff also
Other sources of failure during a validation can be (a) memory problems -> run memtest (b) CPU overheating
ahh my cpu doesnt get too hot but how do i do the memory test can it be done to the ext hard drive too.
Make sure about the CPU. You'd be surprised.
For the memory, you can launch a memory test within Windows 8 (windows memory diagnotics). Or you can google Memtest86.
Do you see any event in the event viewer? Do you see a stop code with the blue screen? If you don't see a blue screen, your problem is not software, it is hardware.
ok ill do the mem test when this finishes. i have my laptop tilted now for airflow. no events in the viewer. but there was no classic blue screen. this was a "blackout".
What hardware could be bad, a fan?
updates: everything checkedout ok. i have laptop under a usb fan now.
now just looking to:
- verify nothing wrong with acronis
- what other hardware to check
- what can i do to check the ext hard drive

Run memtest86 overnight if possible.
In answer to your questions.
1. Run a repair install of TI.
2. Check for dust around the power supply fans, the CPU/GPU fans. Check to see if any capacitors on the motherboard have a rounded bulge to their tops or vented any brown looking goo down their sides. The capacitors to look for are cylindrical, vertical and will have a what looks like a knife cut 'x' on their silver tops. The body will be coloured and have a line down one side or +/- markings on the jacket. Your motherboard may also have aluminium solid capacitors, these are less likely to leak or bulge, but will be similar to my description above, but won't have a jacket be quite short and have a blue or black line on half of their top.
Make sure all the RAM chips and any cards are fully inserted into their sockets.
3. Run chkdsk /r (drive letter of your external drive). You could also try running diagnostic software available from the disk manufacturer.
