insufficient privileges to access this directory: c:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu\Programs\Acronis

Thread needs solution

Attempting to do a clean full install of True Image 2013. Running installer as administrator with Norton disabled. All go perfectly even to the "validating install stage" when an Installation Incomplete error box pops up:

An error occurred while installing True Image 2013

Issue description:

The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: c:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu\Programs\Acronis. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator.

Background:

Lenove SL400 w/ 3 GB and DuoCore Intel
Windows Vista Home Basic SP2
Norton 360 (current version)
I am sole user and admin; this is a home system

More detail:

I tool control of the offending directory above (and all files and sub-directories). Turned off Norton and tried the install again. Same result.

Previously had True Image 2011 installed and it stopped being able to do sector-by-sector backups. Tried an upgrade to 2013 but upgrade installer did not accept the 2011 upgrade because that was upgraded from 2009. Used Acronis Uninstall Tool to remove the 2011 product before attempting the full backage 2013 install.

As you say you have already uninstalled ATI2011, run the Acronis True Image Cleanup Utility for 2011-2013: http://kb.acronis.com/content/34876
Be careful to follow all instructions, including not allowing the utility to reboot until you've made the Registry edits.

Then, reboot and try the install again. If it still complains, try running the installer as administrator.

There is no reason to do sector-by-sector backups, unless you have a disk problem. All it does is unnecessarily increase backup size and time taken.

If after trying Tuttles suggestion the problem still occurs a look through the installer log might be in order. The log file will be somewhere in your user temp folder, have a look through it (from the bottom upwards) note any -3 xxxx entries at the bottom and scroll up until you see the same entry in the installation progress messages, note any information given (this is assuming the log file is too big to attach to a post).

It might be that registry is preventing this path from updating - that is the security permissions within registry for this entry are locked for some reason.

If you decide to post your log file in the forum, check for and remove your serial number (plain text entry) and email address.
